Judy Bowie Obituary

Published by Storke Funeral Home-Bowling Green Chapel from Jun. 19 to Jun. 20, 2018.
Judith Marie Johnston Bowie was called home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2018. Judy is survived by her husband Larry Bowie of Oak Gove, VA; her son Brandon Bowie and wife Jessica of Colonial Beach, VA, and her daughter Whitney and husband Shawn Cannon of Bowling Green, VA. She will be greatly missed by her treasured grandchildren, Brant Bowie, AJ Cannon, Brayden Cannon, and Jamison Cannon; whom she dearly loved and mentored. She is also survived by her mother, Margaret Johnston of Colonial Beach; and sisters Vicki Cooke, Sandy Fudge, and Shirley Walker from Colonial Beach and King George. Her extended family of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law are all recipients of Judy's boundless love and her gift of herself to them. She was preceded to heaven by her father Richard Windsor Johnston.

Judy's professional life was as a registered nurse, graduating from DePaul School of Nursing, but her life work was that of encourager, inspirer, and friend to all who crossed her path. She exemplified the love she knew in Jesus and reflected it onto everyone she met. She was known for her work in the nursing field at the offices of her friends at the Mussey and Sarber medical practice in Fredericksburg, VA; where she worked with empathy and a love that lifted the spirits of countless patients; and her family of co-workers. Beyond her profession, Judy was an ongoing care giver and helping hand to loved ones and perfect strangers alike if they had a need. She will be sorely missed by all she leaves behind, but her impact was profound on all who had the pleasure to know her. May her home coming be even more glorious than expected.

A celebration of her life will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 8096 Leedstown Road, Colonial Beach, VA on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 11:00 am. A reception will immediately follow in the Family Life Center of the church. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm in St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church in Judy's name, with memo to Operation Christmas Child. This a ministry dear to Judy's heart as she embraced this organization's focus to spread the gospel of Jesus worldwide. Or, a contribution to Mary Washington Hospice would also be a fitting and suitable memorial to Judy as they pour themselves into the work of giving comfort to those in critical need. The family particularly thanks the nursing staff of Mary Washington Hospital who literally rearranged their assignments to care for Judy and her precious friend Terry Bell Moorby, who held her hand tight through it all. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.storkefuneralhome.com.

We knew Judy through her work as Dr. Lisa Sarber's nurse. Judy was always so compassionate and always had a way of lifting your spirits and making you feel better about your situation. She was born to be a nurse and practiced her profession and her faith with her whole heart and soul. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

I only knew Judy as a nurse...my favorite nurse at the doctor's office...but we discovered I knew some of her nieces and nephews so she would talk about how adorable their babies were...and she would ask after my family...and she was always unfailing kind and sympathetic. She always seemed like a friend - I'm sure she did to everyone. Her faith showed. What an awesome woman! God bless and comfort all her family.

Judy was my primary caregiver, Lisa Sarber's, nurse. No matter what was going on in her own life, Judy was right there for me, whether I was feeling ill or just coming for a checkup. She had a wonderful warm, gentle way with her patients and brought comfort and kindness to all. May she rest in peace, and may the Lord comfort her family. God bless you all.

There is not enough appreciation nor words of admiration and love to describe our beautiful friend and confidant Judy. At some point and time Judy in her own way has taken care of or assisted or touched in someway every single family member and friend that has ever crossed her path. To know Judy and to know that she loved you as a friend is truly one of the highest honors I have ever known in life. Knowing she is with the Lord and the rest of her family and friends that have already left for heaven ahead of her is the only thing that gives me any personal peace. For Judys family I along with so many others love all of you and am sharing in your painful loss. God Bless each of you.

Judy Johnston Bowie was the kind of woman who lit up any room that she entered with just her smile. We met in elementary school and went in and out of each other's lives through the years due to family changes, jobs, school, etc. As adults, our children finally met and played together whenever we could manage to get together.
I have often heard the saying that "heaven gained an angel today" and in your case, that is more than true. I can almost see your smile lighting the way for so many others entering heavens gates.
I have missed you, Judy, these last years but you were never far from my heart. My deepest sympathy to your amazing family who will feel your loss the most. My heart aches for them all as they struggle through these difficult days. My comfort is in knowing that someday, you and I will truly meet again on a permanent basis in heaven. Goodbye my sweet friend.

Dear Ones,

Nothing I say here will fill the void you (and all who knew Judy) are feeling at this time. However, I do have something I would like to share with you.

My daddy taught me early on that as long as we keep the happy memories of our loved ones alive in our heart, they can never truly leave us. I have tested that lesson many times over the years. It has held true. I am sure we ALL have many, many happy times surrounding Judy. As you miss her, I know you will not dwell on the sadness of her not being with us here on earth any longer. Rather, I am sure you will be focusing on the happy memories and joy she brought everyone she met. That is what she would have us do. Let's carry on her ministry of loving and giving to others.

You are all in my prayers for strength, peace and joy.

Much love,
carol sparbel ;-)

What a beautiful photo and obituary. The obituary was so true. Judy touched my heart. I have in the last couple of weeks thought I need to send her a note. I wish I had. I hope she knew what a shining light she was to all. I knew Judy through the doctor office but I have to say my heart is so sad as if we had a social relationship. What a wonderful legacy of love to leave. To her family, the last time I talked with Judy she said she was ready for God's plan for her. Her concern was for her children, husband, and family. What a gift and blessing you had - we all had. Prayers for you all. Thankful to have known this beautiful woman and child of God. Love Debbie (and Steve) McInnis.

Judy and Larry's (my childhood friend and love) is a love story that exceeds the legends of history. It is complete and everlasting. We would have to look to the stars to find such a love as pure and bright.

Judy impacted so many lives with her kindness, graciousness, beauty and empathetic nature. She treasured her family and valued friendships.

And because words are not enough.....there are beautiful symbols that reflect love, undying loyalty, and friendship which is the foundation of love.

Judy was such a blessing to have as not only a nurse but a friend. It was an honor to know her and to call her a friend. Our family is truly blessed to have Dr. Sarber's office to turn to for care. Our experience there was made better with Judy as our nurse. She was a strong lady with gumption, pride in her family. pride in her work and a grateful heart. I know I speak for my family when I say that our lives were better having Judy in it; the world was better with Judy in it.
My mother was called home on May 13. Judy was so supportive to her during her darkest days. For that I am forever grateful. I know heaven is a better place for my Mom now that Judy is by her side again. Thank you beautiful lady. We love you.

My heart breaks at the news of Judy's passing. I will miss her so very much at Dr. Sarber's office. She indeed was such a warm, caring professional who quickly became a friend. My family have been patients of Dr. Sarber and her amazing staff since 1986, and through those years Judy was my friend, sometimes my confidante, my sister in Christ, as well as my nurse. We always talked about our children, and then our grandchildren, and her love for all of you shone brightly through every word. It's amazing how much conversation two friends can squeeze into that little bit of time before Dr. Sarber came into the room! It will be so difficult to return to the office without Judy.

Although I grieve for her and for your loss, I rejoice that she is in Heaven with my mom and dad, and I will see her again. Her love of Jesus was first in her life, and it was that love that made her the awesome person that she was here on Earth. My prayers have been and will continue to be with you all.
