James C. (Jim) Mitchell, 89, died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 in Indianapolis, Indiana after a brief illness.
Jim was a native of Ridgway and Clearfield and later Zionsville, Indiana. Jim was a WWII veteran stationed in Kobe, Japan. After his service, he attended Thiel College. He began his career at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation before joining the Pennsylvania and Conrail Railroads, from which he later retired.
Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 79 in Zionsville, Indiana and formerly of the American Legion Post 6, Eagles and VFW Post 1785 of Clearfield.
Everyone who met Jim was immediately taken by his charisma and sense of storytelling. An avid fan of football, he never missed a Penn State game, and enjoyed his Sunday afternoon watching the Steelers and the Colts.
At the time of his passing, his family was by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Margaret (Shaw) Mitchell of Zionsville, Indiana; two daughters, Debra Kline (George) of Clearfield and daughter Diane Bakaysa (Brian) of Zionsville, Indiana; known as "Pappy Jim," he will be missed by his two cherished grandchildren, Katherine (Katie) Bakaysa and Nicholas (Nick) Bakaysa of Zionsville, Indiana; and the family dog, Maui, who brightened each of his days.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Elsie Mae (Wilson) Mitchell; and a sister, Jeannine (Mitchell) Prindle, all from Ridgway.
A funeral service in memory of James C. (Jim) Mitchell will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. with the viewing immediately prior from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., 312 East Locust St., Clearfield, Pa. 16830 with Rev. John White officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot at Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.

Jimmy aka 2 beer Jimmy will be greatly missed by all his American Legion Family. Everyone loved his stories he always talked about his kids and grand kids and how proud he was of them. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family, He was a GREAT man.
