Larry R. Snyder Sr., 67, of Ridgway, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital after a short illness.
He was born Oct. 6, 1950 in Indiana, a son of the late Raymond and Alberta (Fleming) Snyder. On July 5, 1971, he married Delores A. (Swackhammer), who survives in Ridgway.
After 28 years of service to the Johnsonburg Paper Mill, he retired in 2012 as a laboratory technician. Larry had also retired from the Pennsylvania National Guard after serving in the Marine Corps from 1968-1978, including time in Vietnam from 1970-1971 with Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, time with his children and especially his grandchildren. He has lived with his family in the Johnsonburg/Ridgway area since 1985.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Larry (LeAnne) Snyder Jr. of Camp Hill, Adam Snyder of Ridgway, Dawn (Cliff) Holland of Texas, LouAnn Smith of Ridgway, Robin (Scott) Hollobaugh of Ridgway and Sally (DJ Nicholson) Snyder of Jonestown; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Elizabeth Wray of Sykesville, Sandra Snyder of Rossiter and Theresa Moore of New Mexico.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Dale Snyder.
A memorial service for Larry R. Snyder Sr. will be held Sunday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield. Military honors will be accorded by the Bennetts Valley Legion Post 978 Burial Detail.
There will be no visitation. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, Jan. 14 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
