Erma Louise Macbeth Shesler, 98, died Jan. 25, 2019, at Rolling Green Village Health Care Center, Greenville, S.C.
She was born July 9, 1920, in Savannah, Ga., the only child of James Ira and Eugenia Louise Herron Macbeth. Elmer George Shesler, her husband of 69 years, passed away June 9, 2009. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Harriman, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Kingston.
Erma was an excellent wife, mother and homemaker, and enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking and playing bridge. After her marriage to Elmer on Sept. 16, 1939, they lived in Yonkers, N.Y.; Lakewood, Ohio; Bennington, Vt.; Fostoria, Ohio; Harriman; and Greenville, S.C.
Surviving are her two daughters, Brenda Louise Strickling of Harriman and Erma Macbeth and her husband, H. Robert "Bob" Rayle of Taylors, S.C.; her son-in-law, George Swinler of Williamstown, W.V.; grandchildren, Cynthia Cortesio of Harriman, Allen Strickling of Parker, Colo., Kevin Rayle (Ann) of Knoxville, Michael Rayle (Barbara) of McKinney, Texas, Lisa Broadhead (Neal) of Inman, S.C., Sandra Orland (John) of Maple Heights, Ohio, George Swinler (Jacki) of Knoxville, Paul Swinler of Glendale, Ariz., Deborah Hall of Parkersburg, W.V. and Ronald Swinler of Williamstown, W.V.; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, John Clayton Swinler of Williamstown, W.V.; her daughter, Dianne Jane Swinler of Williamstown, W.V.; and her son-in-law, Lawrence Allen Strickling of Harriman.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, in the chapel of Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive. The family will receive friends at the mortuary an hour prior from 1-1:45 p.m. An interment will be held at Laurel Grove North Cemetery in Savannah on Feb. 4.
The family wishes to thank Interim Healthcare Hospice of Greenville for their excellent care in the last months of Erma's life. Also, many thanks to the hundreds of employees of the Rolling Green Village Memory Care and Health Care areas who were so nice and helpful.
