Ronald "Doc" Burney, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2019.
Ron was a pharmacist and owned Kingston Drug Center. Ron was a funny, witty, kind and gentle man who served Kingston and the pharmacy profession honorably. His lunch counter was the center of Kingston culture for more than a quarter of a century and he gave so many young people their first job. Ron was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Kingston for almost 50 years. Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1954-1956. He graduated Howard College of Pharmacy (now known as Samford University) with a B.S. in pharmacy in 1960. He practiced pharmacy in Rossville, Ga. prior to moving to Kingston in 1969. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma.
He is survived by his daughter, Ronda Burney Piper (Burt); son, Rodney Jerome Burney (Lora); grandchildren, Burton Piper (Sarah), Brad Piper (Emily), Katie Burney and Joseph Burney; and one great-grandchild, Victor Dominic Piper (Burton and Sarah).
The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston. The funeral followed at 4 p.m. in the Kyker Chapel. Burial was 1 p.m. Monday at Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park in Rossville, Ga.
