Rafiq Salim "Sammy" Soufan, age 47, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011. He was born in Jerusalem on January 22, 1964. His parents, Salim Soufan and Hamdeh Hamdan and his sister, Anam preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Fatin, and his cherished daughters, Jeanine, Ayat, Haneen and Nedaa. His wife and daughters were his life and providing for his daughters education was very important to him.
Since 1987, Rafiq operated Sam's Take Out. He took pride in being able to provide a valuable service and his customers became his extended "family".
Rafiq's upbeat demeanor, great generosity and caring heart touched everyone he came in contact with. His positive attitude and dedication to family and the Rocky Mount community will greatly be missed.
An educational fund has been set up for his daughters and donations can be sent to: RBC Bank, The Soufan Family Fund, 2340 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount NC 27894, M-C 000-005-0100.

I knew Rafiq as "Tony". He acted as an intercessor when my family and I experienced problems. I would come by his store and he'd tell me my wife and daughter had been by and they were doing ok. He prayed for us and often told me "Pop, everything is going to be alright." This man cared in a way, you could feel when you looked into his eyes. Thank God for him and God is able to provide for his family as he helped other families.

For years I have known you. I was shocked to hear that you were gone. You were like an uncle and I was always happy to come into your store. You have moved on to a better place now. I want to pray for peace for your wife and daughters. We have all lost a special person and I don't think he ever realized how much he was loved! RIP my friend!

Fatin, I am so sorry for your loss. I am sad I did not get to know your husband because he sounds like a beautiful person. If there is anything I can for you or your beautiful girls, I would be glad to. I can on send prayers that you find peace and he has become an angel to watch over you and the girls.
