Myrna McKay Obituary

It is with much sadness the family of Myrna Jean McKay of Crossfield, AB announces her passing on May 30, 2018. Born January 12, 1949 in Kerrobert, SK, Myrna grew up in Red Deer Lake and Calgary, eventually residing in Crossfield. Myrna was a member of the Timac Tires Women's Fast-Pitch Team winning several provincial championships and was part of the first team to represent Alberta in the Canada Summer Games in Halifax, NS, bringing home silver in 1969. In 1981 her curling team won the Canadian Ladies Curling Association Champions and went on to represent Canada in the World Women's Curling Championship in Perth, Scotland, placing second. After retirement Myrna spent much of her time volunteering at Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area and was Volunteer of the Year in 2005. She spent many hours volunteering her time at the Millarville Race Track and in 2011 was recognized as a Lifetime Member. She loved to travel, particularly heading north to the Yukon and Alaska. Myrna was predeceased by her father William James McKay (1979) and survived by her mother Beatrice Josephine McKay (Hill); Brothers Ken (Saundra), Keith (Lorna); Sisters Connie and her husband Dan, Sharon, Glenda; Nephews Joah (Emily), Nick (Lori); Nieces Lindsay (John), Asia, Kaylin; Great Nieces Blair, Eloise, Eve; Friends Jo Dunsmore, Diane Sauer, among many others and extended family; her horse Tina and favourite antique tractor Millie. It is with sadness we send heartfelt condolences to Myrna's family on your loss. As Red Deer Lake neighbours, Myrna, Connie and the rest of her family were much a part of our whole families lives from a very young age. In more recent years we would meet at Millarville or country events. These meetings were like we had just talked the day before. We always looked forward to seeing each other and catching up on each other's families. Be it at the Market, Fair or Flower festival. I was always amazed by Myrna's photography. I will miss seeing her and our visits. May these notes and memories help you through this time.

Condolences to Myrna's family..... the community has lost a special person and it will be an emptier place without you Myrna. I knew Myrna as a tireless worker, a kind, caring and selfless individual and loyal friend, always putting other peoples's needs before her own. She would always have a story to tell, along with a few giggles during visits. I'm sad I couldn't share one more beer and laugh with you my friend..... Barb (Scatterty) Davies and family

Our dearest Myrna,
You were a huge part of our family. You were not only a very close friend, but a sister to Gordon and I, a special Aunt to all our children throughout their lives and the very best GodMother to our Miss Emma. We will cherish all our memories we shared. We have all shed many tears at the thought of not hearing your voice and seeing you. You meant so much to each one of us. You gave everything you had, to everything you did in life, and with the most positive outlook. We all have learned so much from you. It is a honour to of known you and a privilege to of shared in your life. You will be dearly missed. Our love and prayers are with all your family members and friends. We love you Myrna

Myrna was such a wonderful person, she had an incredibly big heart, and was always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. I remember her helping me peel many many pounds of potatoes when I ran the concession at the Millarville Racetack. We sat and talked for hours whilst peeling potatoes all evening!
She will be missed by so many. Prayers and thoughts to her family and the many friends Myrna had.

Myrna was a salty ol' gal, I will miss her. She gave me the best hug at the last market last year. We shed some tears with her diagnosis, and her determination was palpable. Very sad news.

We are so sad to be without our wonderful house & animal sitter. The dogs loved Myrna. She would take them for walks to parts they hadn't yet seen. She will be missed the most around the Millarville Racetrack where she worked endlessly without pay and was always there to find what you needed or knew where things were stored or helped out wherever she could, especially in the campground! Rest In Peace, Myrna.
