Kathleen Cecile "Grandma" Crockett passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2018 in Auburn, California in the comfort of her daughter's home with her surrounding children. Her cause of death was cancer, although, she would love you to believe it was from a lifetime of laughter.
Kathleen Thornton lived an extraordinary, fun-filled life with her family and friends. She was born on August 20, 1939, in the city of San Francisco, California. She was raised Catholic and attended Catholic school all through her years. She had fond memories of being truly nurtured by the church, where she developed a very strong faith in God that lasted throughout her lifetime. She loved the city of San Francisco and often talked about her adventures of riding on cable cars, learning to drive a car on the mountainous hills of the city, spending days at Golden Gate Park, and countless hours at the beach near her home with her lifelong friends of 32 Avenue.
At the age of 19, Kathleen left the city for the island of Oahu where she met University of Hawaii basketball player Doug Crockett. Doug and Kathleen married in San Francisco and started a family. The couple found their way up and down the state of California until her husband's glass business landed them in the small town of Auburn. Kathleen raised her four wonderful children on College Way next to Placer High School and continued to live in Auburn for the duration of her life.
Kathleen was a woman to love. Her sense of humor, spontaneity, and beautiful smile were only a glimpse of her warm heart. Kathleen dedicated her life to her relationships with her family and friends. Many of her cherished stories came from the travels she experienced around the world with her loved ones. Those of you who knew Kathleen know that it was only fitting she would pass away on Super Bowl Sunday. Kathleen was an avid sports fan and spent a great deal of time attending all sporting events. But her greatest love of all was her beloved children and grandchildren. She was a mother of unconditional love and a friend of endless laughter. Her loving title as Grandma extended far beyond her family. She was "Grandma" in the heart to many others as well.
She is survived by her sister, Sue, and brother Bill; her children: Karen, Debra, James, and Linda; grandchildren: Joshua, Cole, Chelsea, Hannah, Farrah, Dillon, Townsend, Thornton, and Rosie; great-grandchildren: Toshiro, Vienna, Penelope, Wyatt, Coleman, and Allie Kathleen.
A memorial for Kathleen Crockett's life will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1162 Lincoln Way, Auburn, CA 95603, on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 1 p.m. A reception will immediately follow at: Bootleggers Old Town Tavern & Grill, 210 Washington St. Auburn, CA 95603.
