Violet J. Smith 1934—2020
Violet Joan (Lundgren) Smith of Rockford went to Heaven on December 21, 2020. She was born July 13, 1934 in DeKalb, IL, daughter of Peter Lundgren and Nellie (Upson) Lundgren.
A cheerleader at Lincoln Park School in Rockford, she attended Rockford West High School where she met and in 1953 married Alex W. Smith in the Winnebago Street Methodist Church. They had two children Vanessa and William. They attended various Methodist churches throughout the years, including the New Milford Methodist Church where she was quite active including helping her husband serve as trustee.
When the children were young, she was a stay-at-home mom, but later worked at various jobs including Clinton Electronics, JC Penny, and real estate. She also helped her husband build homes for themselves over the years. She enjoyed camping motel trips and their trailer home near the Wisconsin dells on Jordan Lake.
She is survived by her children, daughter Vanessa Ann (Wayne) Meyers and son William A. Smith, both residing in the Rockford Area. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Alex Smith.
Services for Violet will be private. Interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 8616 W. State Rd, Winnebago, IL 61088. Arrangements entrusted to Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford IL, 61108.
