LEROY M. SODERBERG SR., 89 ROCKFORD - Leroy M. Soderberg, Sr., 89, of Rockford, was reunited with his parents, John and Marie (Olson) Soderberg, son, Leroy "Wink" Soderberg, Jr., and grandson, Paul Lee Leighty on Friday, August 21, 2015. Born March 1, 1926, in Rockford. Lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church. He married his lifelong sweetheart of 68 years, Doris Anderson on April 4, 1947, and raised 6 children in the Rockford area. Leroy served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Illinois Bell for 35 years, retiring in 1982. Avid Bear, Avalanche and Blackhawk fan. Leroy enjoyed reading, water skiing, fishing, exercising and most of all just being with family. He spent many hours cheering on family from the sidelines of hockey rinks, football fields, soccer fields and walking Golf courses. His quick sense of humor and off the cuff jokes always made you smile. Big or small, he was always there when help was needed. Leroy amazed everyone with his ability to repair just about everything. Survivors include his wife, Doris; sons, John (Kim) Soderberg and Steve (Candy) Soderberg; daughters, Marlene Soderberg, Darlene (Steve) Leighty and Monica (George) Enstrom; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marion (Art) Blewitt; special companion, Buster. The family wishes to thank all the staff at N. Illinois Hospice and nursing staff at Villa at P.A. Peterson. Service at 12 p.m. Thursday, August 27, in Salem Lutheran Church, 1629 6th Street, Rockford, with visitation from 11 a.m. to service time, with the Rev. William Dahlberg will officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family to be distributed between Alzheimer's Foundation, Northern Illinois Hospice and Wounded Warriors.
