JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Alex Lennart Anderson, 85, of Jacksonville Beach passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's and M.S. Born March 14, 1926 to Arvid and Ragnhild, he graduated from Rockford (Ill.) East in 1944 and joined the U.S. Navy. In 1950 he received a bachelors in physics from Beloit College and was an engineer for Ingersoll and later for HCI Inc. He invented a roll texturing system that remains in use today throughout the global steel industry. Alex was active in Rotary and the Lutheran Church. He was proud of his Swedish heritage, a patriotic American and a creative force who never stopped dreaming. Survived by wife, Marlys; children, Kay (David) Sieverding, David (Kelly) Anderson and Todd (Rebecca) Anderson; stepchildren, Gregg Joesten, Holly (Brian) Shaner and Kelly (Matthew) Theisen; and 12 grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents and siblings, Jack and George Anderson and Sonja Stout. Memorial service in Rockford is being planned for the spring of 2012.
