SUDBURY - Maureen Ruth Reardon, age 75, of Buena Vista, CO, formerly of Sudbury, VT, passed away in her home on Friday, April 13, 2018, following an illness.
She was born on Feb. 20, 1943, in Boston, MA, daughter of Walter and Ruth (McDonough) Reardon. She served in the Peace Corps in Thailand before receiving her teaching degree at Castleton State College.
She ran a preschool in her home for a decade before teaching kindergarten at Castleton Elementary and Orwell Village School where she was well-loved by students, their parents and her colleagues.
After her retirement, she served as a substitute teacher and as a volunteer for Hospice.
She enjoyed traveling the world, gardening, visiting the ocean and spending time with friends and family, especially her two grandchildren.
Maureen will be remembered for her kind heart, her great laugh and sense of humor, her hard work, love of children, and her sense of adventure!
She is survived by her three daughters Molly, Jody and Sarah Taparauskas; her brother, Jim Reardon, and sister, Eileen Reardon; her grandchildren Rowan and Aleah Shultz; and her former spouse, Joe Taparauskas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A private burial was held in Crestone, CO, on Saturday, April 14. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at She also asked that people perform a daily act of kindness in her name.
