SPRINGFIELD - Virginia S. Fontaine, 94, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Oct. 23, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Marguerite (Taggart) Snow.

She was a 1938 graduate of Bellows Falls High School.

On Oct. 15, 1939, she married Caroll G. Fontaine in Lower Bartonsville.

Mrs. Fontaine retired after 30 years' employment with the U.S. Postal Service, first as RFD carrier and then as Bartonsville Post Office postmaster working out of her home.

She served on the Rockingham Zoning Committee, was a member of the Community Clubs/Home Dem Clubs in Bartonsville, the National Grange, and was a master of Bartonsville Grange.

She enjoyed camping, hunting, canning her garden vegetables and swimming in the backyard pool.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Laflamme, two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Fontaine was predeceased by her husband in 1999.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in Oak Hill Cemetery in Bellows Falls, with the Rev. Sanford Johnson officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
