Sacramento, California - John Joseph Gewerth Jr. ( J. J.) was born in Chicago, IL on May 28, 1930. He entered into rest at the age of 90 on January 8, 2021 in Sacramento, CA surrounded by his family. He is also survived by fourteen great and four great great nieces and nephews. John was a kind and caring person. He was great listener and always thought before he spoke. If he saw someone in need of help he would always offer his assistance. Whether it be running errands, giving a ride, or rolling bandages for a for a friend. Anything he could do to help he did. He liked to snow ski and did so until he was into his eighties. He liked sports and music and most of all learning. He loved documentaries.
John was a S/SGT for the United States Marine Corp. He served in the Korean war. He graduated from The University of Utah with degree in Geology and worked for the Army Corp of Engineers as a geologist for many years until he retired in 1993. After retirement John traveled to Europe and Alaska. Every year he would attend The University of Utah's "Big Game" with his college friends, drive to Chicago to visit family and the Bears, and drive to Arizona to watch baseball spring training.
There will not be a day that goes by that he will not be missed. He was truly one of a kind.
We love you J.J.

JJ was truly one of a kind and I wished I had known him better.
I remember fun nights listening to the BeerDawgs play and he’d be at his table, quietly watching us dance, never could we sway him to join us on the floor.
I was so happy years later to reconnect, finding out he was the Dad of good friends (it’s a small world), this life won’t be the same without him in it.
My deepest deepest condolences to Rob, Max, Deb and Taylor and the rest of the family. Rest In Peace JJ. Love, Michelle
