Dorothy "Dottie" Harsha (1941 - 2018)

Be the first to share your memories or express your condolences in the Guest Book for Dorothy "Dottie" Harsha.

Dottie left us on December 7, 2018 and, predictably "landed on her feet" (her family says) in heaven and is enjoying her new life there. Born in 1941 in Chicago, Illinois the "third of 5 daughters"as she liked to tell everyone, to Dr. Tom and Dorothy Harsha, Dottie's 77 year lifespan may give new hope to others born with cerebral palsy. Her disability left her undaunted, her family and friends amazed at how she navigated through life with joyful exuberance. Moving to Whittier with her family, she graduated from Whittier High after which she "dedicated" herself to 25 years working in the Whittier College cafeteria, loving her colleagues and students. When her devoted stepmom Josie died, Dottie moved north to be closer to her sisters, ending up in Sacramento. As a client of Alta Regional Center, she lived in Flowerdale, Larchmont and Rojo Care Homes and gleefully attended adult day programs at Pride Industries,Short Center North and Easter Seals-ACT II. The dedicated staff at Alta, the homes, & these centers opened her world to new possibilities. She loved God, prayed for all of us, and saw only the good in everyone around her. Her sisters Barbara Cosand, Judy Carpenter, Susie Lincoln and Polly Schack, brothers-in-law Fred, Thom & John, nieces and nephews Judy & Gary, Rich & Risa, Diana, John, Laura and cousins Pat, Carol & Marilyn will miss her but when they think of her, they will smile. We'll celebrate Dottie's life at 2pm on Sunday, January 20 with her dear friends at Calvary Lutheran Church, 515 L Street, Rio Linda. Remembrances may be made to Easter Seals or the .
