John Martin Lagomarsino was born in Sacramento, California to Louis Lawrence Lagomarsino and Helen Elizabeth Higgins. He was educated at Sacred Heart School, Christian Brothers High School and Sacramento High School. He belonged to Sutter Lawn Tennis Club, and was an avid bridge player. He graduated from Sacramento State College in 1961 with a B.A. in History. He joined the Peace Corps and was trained for service at Penn State, after which he was with the first group of Peace Corps volunteers to serve in the Philippines. During that time he became close to the community of Columban Missionaries, and at the end of his service he entered the Columban Seminary in Oconomowoc, WI. After years of preparation and study, he was ordained to the priesthood on June, 13, 1970, at his home parish, Sacred Heart, and then returned to the Philippines. After serving there, he became Treasurer for the Columbans and served in Nebraska. After our mother's death in 1982, he received permission to remain in Sacramento with our father, who died in 1992. He became an associate to the pastor at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Carmichael. He enjoyed being able to re-connect with his old friends from high school and college. He remained at St. John's, serving as Pastoral Administrator until his retirement and he continued his close relationships with so many dear friends in the parish community until the time of his death. Before his passing, he was recovering from hip surgery near the Columban Retirement Center in Bristol, Rhode Island. Our family is especially grateful to Father Chuck Lintz, SSC and to Pam Serbst, RN, who remained devotedly at his bedside. We also thank dedicated volunteers from Holy Family Parish and St. John's who have been of so much support. In addition to his loving family of Columban Fathers, Fr. John will be missed by his brother, Paul Lagomarsino, MD (Kim Millick) of Mendocino, CA, and his sister, Lucia (George) Foster of Alamo, CA. In addition, he leaves his nephews, Brad (Leslie), Greig (Sally), and Brian (Jennifer) Lagomarsino, and his nieces, Libby (Paul) Sagara, Katie Blue, and Emily (Jon) Braunstein; and grand nieces and nephews, Ella, Bo, Will, Olivia, John, Charley and Lane Lagomarsino, Alison, Sam and Luke Sagara, Jackson and Vivian Blue, and Alexis and Daniel Braunstein. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Columban Fathers Retirement Center in Bristol on February 16, and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 3 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church, 39th and J Streets, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Missionary Society of St. Columban, P.O. Box 10, St. Columbans, NE 68056
