It is with sorrow that Leonard has passed on at Sutter General Hospital on August 1, 2018 aged 90 years. Leonard was born in Sacramento California on June 16, 1928 and was a lifelong Sacramento native. Leonard is pre-deceased by his parents George, and Rose Nielsen, his wife of 55 years Doris I Nielsen, his Son Mark J. Nielsen, 2 half-brothers, and many cousins. Leonard is survived by his Son Bryan G. Nielsen of Sacramento, many nieces, half nieces, cousins, friends, and neighbors. Leonard attended grammar school at Holy Angels in the Sacramento South Side Park area where he grew up and graduated from Christian Brothers High School class of 1946. Leonard served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict Leonard was employed with the Sacramento City Unified School District, Dept. of Maintenance, and Operations for roughly 32 years where he retired as labor foreman during the latter 1980's. Leonard was a previous member of SIRS (Sons in retirement), and was a recent member of the American Legion, and Holy Spirit Parish in Sacramento, Leonard was dedicated to his family whether it was Saturday grocery shopping, or his involvement managing, and coaching little Ieague baseball at the then Pacific little league during the 1960's. Leonard enjoyed his friends, and former co-workers, cooking, barbeque, and dinner get together with family, and friends which always included Birthdays, and Holidays, a sometimes travel to places, his morning walks around his local park, River Cats baseball games, his yards, and gardening, and the love of his house, and being at home. Leonard will be sincerely missed by many. Love starts at the heart, and lives in it forever. Graveside services will be held on August 11 at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park 4300 Folsom Blvd. Sacramento, CA 95819.
