With full hearts we announce the passing of Martha Guerrero on May 10, 2018. Martha died peacefully, after a long battle with Alzheimer's, surrounded by her family and caregivers at Irene Swindells Alzheimer's Residential Care. Born February 17, 1931 in Anahuac, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Martha immigrated to the U.S. in 1945. In 1950, she moved with her family to Sacramento, CA, where she lived for the next 65 years. She proudly became a U.S citizen in 1957. She attended St. Joseph's Academy and went on to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse, working for Mercy General Hospital. She retired after 17 years as a teaching assistant, from the Sacramento Unified School District. Armed with a great sense of humor, always full of energy, and with a smile to share, Martha lived life to the fullest. She was an active volunteer with Area Congregations Together (ACT) serving young people in trouble, Clara's House (a free clinic), and Mercy Hospice. She was a devoted community member of St. Peters Catholic Church. She loved games and was an avid button collector, seamstress, embroiderer, rose cultivator and zumba dancer. She made a gift donation of her brain to the University of California, Davis' Alzheimer's study to further the hope for a cure. Martha was preceded in death by her adored husband of 52 years, Artivio Guerrero; and their son, Joseph Guerrero. She is an inspiration to her daughters, Ana Guerrero and Teresa Brofferio (Francesco); and her grandchildren, Mia and Lucca Brofferio. Martha is also missed and loved by a large and loving family and circle of devoted friends.
