Paula Paulus Aron (1931 - 2019)

Paula Paulus Aron passed away in Sacramento on December 18, 2018 at the age of 87. Paula was born on August 15, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Betty Paulus and Norman Edelmann. She attended schools in Detroit, including Cass High School and the University of Michigan, before marrying and moving to California. She lived in Los Angeles before moving to Sacramento, where she raised six children while pursuing a master's degree at California State University, Sacramento and a Ph.D at University of the Pacific. During this time she met and later married the love of her life, Dr. Harry Aron, to whom she was joyously married until his death in 2001. Paula began teaching English at Sacramento City College in 1973 and continued until her retirement in 2003. She was a dedicated and inspiring teacher who introduced her students to a wide variety of important thinkers such as Gertrude Stein, Michel Foucault, Maya Angelou and Thomas Szasz. In addition to teaching, she loved travelling, classical music, modern art and Japanese films. A caring mother and grand-mother, Paula is survived by her six children/spouses: Ethan Aronson; David and Mary Ellen Aronson; Anita Cook; Wendy Aronson; Tina and Kelly Burt; and Susan Aronson and Willie Pelote; and by her grandchilden: Sean, Cody, Shelby, Logan, Marissa, Claire, Chad, Emily and Elizabeth.
