Richard Harrison Obituary

Richard Harrison
January 12, 1935 - March 5, 2021
Citrus Heights, California - Our loving husband, father and brother Richard Harrison passed away at the age of 86. He grew up in upstate New York and joined the Air Force in the mid-50's, stationed in California as an Air Policeman. He attended the Univ. of Pacific, achieving a Master's degree in teaching, and was an established member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. He went on to teach speech and theater arts at various junior colleges in El Dorado and Sacramento counties, and was an avid lover and active member of the theatre. As one of the founding members of Frog Park Players, he helped to establish community theater in El Dorado county. He directed melodramas, traveling children shows, general community theater, and continued to write plays well into his 70's. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Geneva, grandson Ashton, brother Michael, sisters Judy and Julie, and his departed sister Venecia's family. Due to Covid-19, funeral services will be held at a later date.

We were close. He helped me get into the UCLA theater and film program, but I didn't have enough foreign language credits to get into the UC system first. He told me to go into comedy, which was probably good advice at the time. Let me direct Phantom Tollbooth. Spent a lot of time at his house with Mary. Every year a musical, a drama, and summer stuff at the Hotel Leger in Moke Hill. Boyfriend, Contrast, Mikado, Fantastiks, Dracula, Comedy Of Errors, Phantom Tollbooth, Rocco Cocoa Bean, Hollywood and Vine, some melodramas, the pantomime thing...I also played "Hodge, A Wizard" in some touring show of Snow White or Sleeping Beauty or something, don't remember anymore -- but we had a flash pot in the collapsible platform that set my robe afire at some school...was like 3 shows a year for 4 years or so...He has often been in my thoughts. A great loss.
