We were close. He helped me get into the UCLA theater and film program, but I didn't have enough foreign language credits to get into the UC system first. He told me to go into comedy, which was probably good advice at the time. Let me direct Phantom Tollbooth. Spent a lot of time at his house with Mary. Every year a musical, a drama, and summer stuff at the Hotel Leger in Moke Hill. Boyfriend, Contrast, Mikado, Fantastiks, Dracula, Comedy Of Errors, Phantom Tollbooth, Rocco Cocoa Bean, Hollywood and Vine, some melodramas, the pantomime thing...I also played "Hodge, A Wizard" in some touring show of Snow White or Sleeping Beauty or something, don't remember anymore -- but we had a flash pot in the collapsible platform that set my robe afire at some school...was like 3 shows a year for 4 years or so...He has often been in my thoughts. A great loss.
