  • "I am so sorry for your loss. May you receive strength from..."

Richard Robinson was born April 4, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia to Murray and Bessie Robinson (deceased). The family moved to Opelika, Alabama and then to Birmingham, Alabama in 1943. Richard enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 and bravely served in the Korean War and received an honorable discharge in 1952. Upon his return to Birmingham, Alabama he briefly worked for Sears, Roebuck and Company before embarking on another tour of duty this time in the United States Air Force in 1954. While in the Air Force he traveled to various countries throughout the world but it was during his 1963 assignment at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines that he would meet and marry the love of his life Maria Lydia Santos and to this union two children were born. They eventually settled and raised a family in Sacramento. Richard was a faithful servant of the Lord accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. His faith and commitment in the Lord was reflective in every aspect of his life. In 1980 he became a member of Greater Hill Zion Missionary Baptist Church where served as a Deacon. He was an avid fan of music, enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family. On any given day he could be found cheering on his grandchildren's activities whether it was football, baseball, boxing or tennis Richard was always present. He departed this life on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at UCD Medical Center after a lengthy and well fought battle with the disease Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Maria L. Robinson; brothers Charlie, Eddie, James, Eugene, Willie and Freeman. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Sandra Orejel (Jack) of Sacramento, California; son, Michael Robinson (Nicole) of Sacramento, California; two (2) sisters, Mary Stallworth (Luther) of Pomona, California and Barbara Woods (George) of Riverside, California and a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
