Sam was born June 23, 1948 in Decatur, IL, and died December 18, 2018 in Sacramento, CA. Sam was known for his charisma, great jokes, and a smile that could light up a room. He was gregarious and witty, a smart man who was incredibly down-to-earth. Sam navigated many hard-knock lessons in his life, tempering them with humor and optimism. He made a point of respecting and appreciating people whose occupations are often invisible. He built friendly relationships with most people...but not all. Sam was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Vietnam veteran, pipefitter, union organizer, Scout leader, drinker, bowler, golfer, coach and friend. He had a mischievous smile, lively blue eyes and a great head of hair. Ever the prankster, he died on his ex-wife's birthday. He is survived by many who loved him dearly, including his wife, Sandra Parker-Gill; son, Matt (Jenn, Jacqueline and Preston Gill); daughter, Alli (Ken, Emma and Spencer Kinnear); sister, Kate Colvin; Danielle Richardson, Mark Richardson, Nikki Barragan, Marissa Cornacchioli, Kim and Josh Utter, and Sarah and Jackie Parker. Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 26, at 2:00pm, at the UA Plumbers & Pipefitters Hall, 5841 Newman Ct, Sacramento, for Sam's final farewell.
