WONG, Ernest
aka ''Ernie'', aka ''Chino''

Ernest Wong, age 80, died peacefully October 4, 2009, at his home surrounded by his devoted and loving family.

Ernie was born on June 25, 1929, in Las Vegas, N.M. He attended Lincoln Junior High and Sacramento High schools. After high school, he served with the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps - Once a Marine, Always a Marine.

In 1953, he began work as a barber. He owned and operated Capitol Barber Shop in Sacramento at 21st and P. He touched the lives of many while cutting hair until his retirement in 2003. He made many, many friends at the shop. After Ernie retired, Carlos Romo took over the shop in 2001 and continues to carry on the legacy. Ernie was always proud of his shop, his friendships and the way the new guys kept it alive.

Ernie enjoyed fishing, hunting, trips to Hoopa, tending to his bonsai plants, and tinkering in his garage. He loved taking trips to Reno with his wife. He was an avid pool player. You could find him nearly every Tuesday night at Jointed Cue Billiards on Fruitridge Road in a nine-ball tournament.

His first and foremost love in life was his family, which he cherished and nurtured until his dying day. Ernest is survived by his dedicated wife of 57 years, Hermelinda (Mickey), daughters Deborah (Tony), Ernestine (Steve), and Laura, son Ken (Cathy), and his Best Friend and granddaughter Katrina. He leaves 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. They are Kimberly, Monique (daughter Amaya), Chino (sons Kristian and Jakobe, daughter Lola), Margie (daughters Kyleigh and Marley), Joseph, Julian (sons Julian Jr, Adrian and Angelo), Katrina (daughter Rikkia), Stephanie, Richard Jr. and wife Lisa (daughter Alexis and son Richard III), Desiree (daughter Alani), Ernest Paul (daughter Malena), Yvette (daughter Emily Rose and son Paul), William (son Dominic and daughter Makayla) and John Michael. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Richard and daughter Priscilla, two brothers, Bobby and Willie, and a sister, Connie.

He was the fourth of 16 children born to Don and Isabel Wong. He is survived by brothers and sisters Rosie (Eloy), Don (Emilie), Stella (Joe), Ronald (Frenchie), Charlotte, Edwin, Vernon, Dennis (Margie), Celsa, Curtis (Susan), Rosanna and Diane (Jose).

We would like to give special thanks to our neighbors who have shown tremendous support and care during these months. We are grateful for our family, friends and everyone who has extended their hand to help.

Our family would also like to thank the many doctors, nurses at Mercy General Hospital and the team from Mercy Home Health Program, who made his life more comfortable over these past few years. Words are not enough to express our gratitude for your selfless care and concern.

His service will be held Friday, October 9, at 10:00 a.m. at George L. Klumpp, 2691 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento with a reception to follow.

His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to the charity of your choice.
