Born to Edward H. and Myrtle Faist in Sacramento, CA, Bernie was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy, his son Tom, daughter Laverne Vaughan and granddaughter Stacy Vaughan. He is survived by his son Dennis Faist, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Bernie is a veteran of World War II, U.S. Navy. Bernie married his sweetheart, Dorothy Irene Thompson in 1943 and in 1948 they moved their family to Georgetown where he served as a Fish and Game warden in El Dorado County. While in Georgetown, Bernie was a member of the Rotary club and the Masonic Lodge, serving as Master in 1958. Later in 1958, Bernie and Dorothy settled in Rancho Cordova, where Bernie would retire in 1978 from the CA Department of Fish and Game as Chief of the Wildlife Protection Branch. Bernie was an avid fly fisherman, tying his own flies and eventually teaching all of his grandchildren and some great-grandchildren how to fish.
