LYNN — Mr. Francis X. Morrison, 82, of Lynn, died Sunday morning, July 19, 2009 in North Shore Medical Center Union Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Jean P. (Gray) Morrison.
Born in Lynn, Francis was the son of the late Frederick B. and Teresa N. (Callahan) Morrison. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Boys High School, Class of 1944 and Boston College, Class of 1951. He enlisted in the Unites States Army Air Force and was a Crew Chief for the 394th Bomb Group in the European Theater of Operations. He served during the Korean War as a Flight Operations Analyst and Tech Sergeant.
Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed by the GE in the Jet Engine Division for over 32 years. He held positions as Business Manager of the T58 Project as well as managerial positions in finance and the product support departments. He also served as an instructor in the GE sponsored Junior Achievement Programs and was a member of ELFUN and the Aircraft Engine Group Management Associations.
He was the President of the Fay/Buchanan Association and the Boston College Club of Greater Lynn. Active in St. Pius V Parish, Francis was program director of the Holy Name Society, the director of Boy Scouts Troop 22, and a Religious Education teacher. He was a 2003 Inductee into the St. Mary's High School Hall of Fame. He was a lifetime member of the Gannon Golf Course as well as the Shoe City Golf League.
In addition to his wife, Francis leaves his children, John P. Morrison and his wife Natalie of Beverly, James M. Morrison and his wife Karen of Kanata Ontario, Canada, MaryJane Maher of Lynn, and Elizabeth G. Gardas of Salem. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, Stacie and her husband Peter Callahan, Molly Maher, Katherine and her husband Brian Kopco, Danny Maher, Kelly, Matthew, and Stephanie Morrison, Christopher Sponik, Taylor, Chelsea, and Benjamin Morrison, and one great-grandson, Joshua Callahan. He is also survived by his brother, Charles T. Morrison and his wife Mary of Highland Park, Ill., a sister-in-law, Nancy Gray of Swampscott and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Frederick J. Morrison and Mary E. Laverty.
ARRANGEMENTS: Francis' Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his name may be sent to St. Mary's High School, 35 Tremont St., Lynn, MA 01902.
