Vernon Edward Davis
SALISBURY - Vernon Edward Davis, 71, of Salisbury, died at his home Tuesday, March 27, 2007.
Born Nov. 21, 1935, in Washington, D.C., Mr. Davis was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Rose Wooster Davis.
Vernon was educated in the Washington, D.C., schools and at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. He was a painting contractor for more than 40 years, retiring in 1998.
Vernon enjoyed traveling after retirement, visiting 44 of the 50 states. His favorite places were Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park.
A member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, he participated in the Men's Choir, Lutheran Church Men and served as an usher when his health permitted.
Vernon was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Crawford and Virginia Pasca, and brothers Tommy and Wilson Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Kluttz Davis, whom he married Jan. 12, 1974; brother Hugh F. Davis and wife, Mary of Springfield, Va.; sister, Gerry Melekaglu and husband, Adam of Hedgville, Md.; son Anthony Davis of Mohnton, Pa.; daughter Rosemary Gaul and husband Steve of Bernville, Pa.; son William Davis and wife Angela of Salisbury; daughter Janet Teresa Menster and husband Jerry of Salisbury. Grandchildren include Ashley Lefler, Alex Norris, William Davis, Lanie Davis, all of Salisbury, and David Hoyer of Fayetteville. Four great-grandchildren also survive.
Visitation: Visitations will be held from 6-8 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Service: The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, officiated by the Rev. William S. Ketchie, minister, and the Rev. Floyd Bost. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
