Mr. Walter B. Hogue, age 91, of Melon Drive, passed Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center, Charlotte. Mr. Hogue was born March 5, 1924, in Woodleaf to the late Vernon and Nancy Cuthbertson Hogue. He attended the public schools of Rowan County. He retired from New York Hospital as a supervisor. Mr. Hogue was a member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Missionary board. He was a former member of Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, Woodleaf. Those who shall forever cherish his memory are his wife, Johnnie Hogue of the home; daughter Patricia Tucker of Winston-Salem; sons Jonathan McDaniel of Huntsville, Ala.; Javaughn (Kim) McDaniel and Jermar McDaniel of New York, N.Y.; Walter R. (Teresa) Hogue of Salisbury; sister Robena Burnett of Tampa, Fla.; brother James (Dorthy) Hogue of Lima, Ohio; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arrangements: Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 21, at 12 noon and funeral service at 1 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Clary Phelps, Pastor, Rev. Marcus Fairley, Eulogist. Burial will be at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church. Services are entrusted to Hairston Funeral Inc.
