King Junior Fortson

CHINA GROVE - King Junior Fortson, 77, of China Grove, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, after several years of illness.

Junior was born in Danielsville, Ga., on May 27, 1935, a son of the late King David and Birdie Mae Carithers Fortson.

Junior attended the Madison County School System and retired from the former Cannon Mills. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He loved to work in his garden, fish and spend time with his family and friends. He was a very loving and caring person who never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Jo Fortson; granddaughter Jaclyn Noelle Cruse; brothers Alson, Bethune, Early and James; and sisters Carolyn, Edna, Emma Ruth, Janice, Linda, Mary, Mildred, Sallie, Sarah and Thelma.

Junior is survived by his son, David E. Fortson and wife Renee of China Grove; daughter Janice Fortson Cruse of Salisbury; granddaughters Danielle Torrence-Fortson and Amber Cruse; his first wife, Hazel Upright; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

Service: There will be a Celebration of Life Saturday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the home of David E. Fortson, conducted by close friends, Janet and George Chance.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 12 at the home of David E. Fortson from 12-5 p.m.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis NC 28081.
