Brian Barnhisel Obituary

Brian Ray Barnhisel
1971 ~ 2018
Brian Ray Barnhisel passed away in Sandy, Utah on March 5th, 2018. He was born to Donald Barnhisel and Christine Layton on June 9th, 1971. A 1989 graduate of Alta High School, Brian was a natural athlete who excelled in football and wrestling. After an impressive high school athletic career, including a state championship title, he played football on a collegiate level at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah as a walk on. Brian attributes most of his success in life to lessons learned on the football field.
Brian took great initiative to accomplish his ambitions, including graduating from the University of Utah and serving a mission for the LDS church in Brussels, Belgium as well as Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Brian married his first love, Brooke Anderson, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on July 19, 1993. They later divorced in October of 2004.
Brian cultivated an impressive career in the financial industry, working for many years with Fidelity Investments and Jackson National, but most recently in capacity as a Regional Vice President for Global Atlantic.
Brian emulated success in all aspects of life. Not only did he excel professionally and athletically, he is one of the rare who cultivated and maintained lifelong friendships and relationships. He is lovingly acknowledged by his group of childhood friends - friendships that began in elementary school and are still intact today - as being a true, dependable, and valuable friend. There is no coincidence that Brian is the oldest of six children. His impressive leadership qualities are what endeared his younger siblings. Passionate, driven, and charismatic, he was full of life and love. Brian somehow found time amongst all his pursuits to mentor and coach young men as a previous middle school wrestling coach and youth football coach. He greatly enjoyed working with the youth.
Above all, Brian's greatest joy was his three children. Brian cared deeply for them and was, unquestionably, a devoted father.
Brian found his soulmate in Natalie Baer, with whom he spent the last three years of his life. She and her two children, Walter Rouse and Nicole Baer, brought deep joy and love into Brian's life.
Perhaps one of Brian's most unforgettable qualities was the depth of his capacity to love. His middle name is a representation of how he will forever remain in our hearts. "Ray", meaning light or radiance, Brian was a larger than life personality who brought great light into the lives of all who knew him. Hearts with such a capacity to love, unfortunately, experience many pains of this life on levels we may fail to understand. Though he has left us too soon, we feel a renewed commitment to live each moment with passion, integrity, and joy.
Brian is survived by his parents, Donald Barnhisel (Jinx), and Christine Layton (Clark); three children, Jackson, Lydia, and Dylan Barnhisel; five siblings Randy Barnhisel (Melissa), Darren Barnhisel (Cindy), David Barnhisel (Shanna), Amy Barnhisel, and Liz Layton; three step siblings Jacen Layton, Melissa Carstens (Roger), and Katie Layton. He is preceded in death by his step sister, Lisa Layton Okland.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, March 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel (1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah). There will be a viewing for family and friends Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary. Online condolences: www.larkincares.com.

I'm deeply saddened to hear this news about Brian. I spoke to him 4 days before he passed away and it was too short of a call. I feel fortunate to at least thank him for a favor he did for me and we were able to banter about life for a few minutes and share some laughs. I knew him years ago as part of a circle of friends, then we re-connected through a happenstance professionally upon which he immediately welcomed me to this profession and took a bit of time to teach me more about the industry and he certainly had zero obligation to do so. He was always a gentleman and told it to me straight. He had a fantastic sense of humor and I truly am sad to see he won't be on this earth to spread more jokes and knowledge. I wish him peace into the next journey and also to his kiddos and family.

Dear Don and extended family
Dear Chris and extended family

Our hearts are so pained at the death of Brian. He left us all with so much energy and friendship. Brian had such a strong presence which was impactful to all who knew him.

Your family has always been a part of our family. Don and I attended classes at the University of Utah. We also worked at the phone company as janitors. As couples,we shared a duplex. Later, we had homes in adjoining streets.

While raising our families, we watched Brian develop many of his parents strengths.

Our prayers and our love are with you. We wish you peace as you remember Brian

Don,
I was a night janitor with you at the phone company in the 70s. My wife and I liked the name Brian that you were going to name your son, so we named our son Brian also. He passed away last may. We know the grief that you are feeling. Thank heavens for the atonement.

I am very saddened by the loss of Brian. He was a friend and always took time to find ways to help my practice succeed. I met him over a year ago when he walked into my office and took time to ask how he could help me increase my production. He always provided great insight and expert recommendations that were timely and prudent . We had some common bonds that provided a basis for our friendship. I will truly miss him and can't believe he's gone. Peace be unto those family members and loved ones he left behind - with deepest sympathy,

Brain was a great friend of mine and a very close confidant. I'll always remember him as an honest, caring, truthful, and giving man. If there was something that needed to be done and if Brian could help, he always would. I'll miss his passion for life, his humor, and our memories of the things we did together. He was an awesome guy. The "go to" guy. If you're up there looking down Brian, you know what I mean.

I am so sad to here this news, and sorry for your loss... I have worked with Brian over the past few years and will miss not having him come to our office. We were just talking last Thursday about a recent ski trip I went on and he was so excited to hear about it! Very Sad!

I am so saddened to hear this. I had worked with Brian for many years (around 15 or more I think), scheduling his meetings in our office. He was always such a pleasure to talk to.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and I will miss seeing his smile when he would come into the office.

I am deeply saddened about the loss of such a wonderful loving man..
Brian was authentic and real and I loved being with him. He was so hilarious and precious he will never be forgotten. He was a good soul and now has arrived in his forever home with God and Jesus with no more pain or sorrow.

So saddened to hear this news today of Brian's passing. I work with Brian in the Financial Services world. Infact, was just scheduled to meet with him this coming Monday at 2:30. In my business, there are many, many Financial External Managers who reach out to us. Brian had such a warmth and honesty in what he did, and was so helpful.....I always looked forward to his visits. I pray now for his Eternal Peace, and for his wife and family members, I know his memories will live on in your hearts, and his love will continue to shine in your lives forever. He will be your Angel now!
