Norine Peterson Obituary

1921 ~ 2016
On May 10, 2016, we lost a dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Norine Call Peterson was born during a blizzard on March 8, 1921, in Lewiston, Utah, to Willard White Call and Sarah Ellen Kent Call. She attended Mound Fort Elementary and Junior High Schools and was a member of the second class to graduate from the new Ogden High School in 1939. She studied at Weber College where she was a member of La Dianaeda sorority. While working toward finishing her nursing degree, she also took several classes at the University of Utah. She finished her RN studies at Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 and later was the Treasurer of the Holy Cross Nurses' Alumnus Association for 7 years. After finishing her schooling, she served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She worked for many years as a nurse in doctors' offices and at the University of Utah Medical Center.
Norine married Walter Edward Peterson on May 22, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed their lives together until his death on March 5, 1981. Throughout her life, she was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served on the stake boards of the Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, and YWMIA. On the ward level she served as Primary President, as a counselor in the Relief Society and YWMIA, and taught in many of the Church organizations. She served faithfully as a Relief Society visiting teacher from 1958 until her death, and her last calling was as a Relief Society teacher in a nursing home. She formed cherished and lasting relationships with her Circle of Friends and with her study group, which has met for over 50 years. She was also involved with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and taught DUP lessons into her 90's. She was diligent in fulfilling every call she received and left a legacy of love, faith, and enduring well to the end. She spent the last two and a half years of her life living with her daughter Jan in Ramona, California. She loved her family, the mountains, music, M*A*S*H, reading, teaching, and the 1940's. About her life, she said, "I'm grateful for the love I have received and the love I've been able to give."
Norine is survived by her children, Vicki (Allan) Gunnerson, Ralph (Deborah) Peterson, and Jan (Robin) Jensen, 18 grandchildren, 46 8/9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother Lawrence Call, and her sisters-in-law Beverle Call and Lois Call. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted, her siblings Gordon Call, Steven Call, Ralph Call, Dee Call, and Gwen Hansen, and her siblings-in-law Jeanne Call, Wayne Hansen, Karen Call, and Peggy and Bill Johnson.
Services will be held Saturday, May 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kimball Ward Building, 2280 S. 300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday night from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.

Sorry this is late--my uncle told me he saw the obituary. Norine was a dear friend of my late mother--Nola Agricola Pickett and our family wants to send our condolences to your family. I remember the last time I had to move my parents into a different facility that both my parents expressed special concern that I pack a gift that Norine had given my mom because she was so important to her. Here is a picture I had of the two of them.

Dear Vicki and family...Please know how grateful we are to have known your mom for so many years.
She was one of the kindest, sweetest persons one could ever meet. You were all so fortunate to have had such wonderful parents. She leaves an amazing legacy of love and example. We are thinking of you at this time. The Laursen family in Brigham City. (our dad, who was the same age as your mom, died a week after your mom's passing.)

My mother, Jane Harmston, loved your mom. I lived with my mom the last several years of her life helping her. I got to know Norine through Circle of Friends. Your mom was so smart...almost always winning at the word games. She was always so kind to me. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a sparkle in her eyes. She always brought a smile and laughter to our social events. I am going to be out of state and will miss her funeral. I would have enjoyed hearing about her wonderful life and all the memories that will be shared by her loved ones. Your mom left footprints in my heart.....she was a very special lady.

Dear Jan, Ralph and Vicky,
We have lost a dear friend. Your Mom was the In Service Leader on my Stake Primary Board. One of the outstanding memories of that time was the party in the bedroom. Your Dad stressed that we were in the bedroom and we had a lot of fun talking about that. Eldon was on the High Council with your Dad as well and we loved both of them so much. I have missed seeing her at Church.
Sincerely,
Bonnie and Eldon Farnsworth

Dear Vicky, Ralph, Jan,
I am so sorry I was too ill to attend your mothers funeral. . We have been friends for a good many years Your father and my husband served on the High Council together many years ago. I remember the party they had for all the council members at your cabin in Ogden canyon. Your mother was a darling and I am glad to call her friend. She was 2 years older than me. To live to your nineties is quite an accomplishment.
I send my condolence to all the family.
