Franco Aguilar Richfield, Utah Sergeant Franco Aguilar, 36, of Richfield, Utah, was killed April 29, 2010, while in the line of duty, as he was investigating a traffic accident doing one of the things he did best, helping others. He was born April 28, 1974, in Abasolo, Mexico, to Gerardo and Rosalba Aguilar. He married Jamie Farley on July 15, 1993, in Provo. Sgt. Aguilar was known for his dedication to his career, to his fellow officers, and to his community. Always pushing himself and those around him to become better at what they do. Sgt. Aguilar was a leader by example and would not ask his deputies to do anything he would not do himself. Sgt. Aguilar began his career in 2000 as a corrections officer and was assigned to the Sevier County Jail. From there he transferred to an assignment in patrol. Sgt. Aguilar was hired by Richfield City Police Department a few years later. He was then rehired by Sevier County Sheriff's Office in 2005. Sgt. Aguilar then took the opportunity to work for the Utah Highway Patrol. He had an assignment in the Nephi Utah area. After a short stint there he was rehired by the Sevier County Sheriff's Office in 2007 where he was assigned to Patrol. In 2009 he was promoted to Sergeant. He served six years with United States Marine Corp. He was a Drug Recognition Expert, Taser instructor, member of the Sevier County SWAT team, and member of the Sevier County Gang Task Force. He is survived by his wife, Jamie, and their five children, Antonio, Alyssa, Nicolas, Angelia and Isabella; parents, Gerardo and Rosalba Aguilar of American Fork; and brothers, Ricardo, Fredrick and Octavio Aguilar. Sgt. Aguilar was preceded in death by his sister, Yadira Aguilar and a cousin, Maritza Aguilar. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 12 Noon in the Sevier Valley Center,(800 W. 200 S.) in Richfield. I remember Franco from American Fork Jr. High. We were in the same math class. He made such an impression on me because he had such a sweet and gentle spirit about him. He was different from the other kids. I am very sorry that the world has lost such a man as he. It is a tragedy. My heart and prayers go out to his wife and children.

There is an exclusive group in this world, law enforcement spouses....no one knows the anxiety, the fear, the worry....every time they leave for work, you pray they come back. Every time they are late coming home, you wonder if maybe....and just when you start to think that nothing will ever happen because you live in a fairly safe community, you hear a story like this one and it tears your heart out, because you know that it could have been you, and it might be someday....my heart goes out to the Aguilar family! Your sacrifice is shared by us all. May your hearts be comforted and your lives blessed.

What a touching story. We were greatly saddened after reading about the tragic accident that caused the death of your precious loved one. May the God of all comfort be with you. He knows your pain and promises to be "near to those that are broken at heart and those who are crushed in spirit he saves."

Many are the promises that will be realized in the new world under God's Kingdom arrangement. May they bring you comfort and hope at this sad time.

Sincerely,
Ledbetter Family

May God be with Franco's family in their time of loss!!! He is an amazing man and will be missed by all!!! It's not how an officer dies that makes him a hero...It is how he lived!!! His family, friends and fellow officers will be in my thoughts and prayers!!! R.I.P. Franco....A hero fallen...but NEVER forgotten!!!
