Kyle Morrell Obituary

Kyle Douglas Morrell
1963 - 2020
Bountiful, UT-Our dear father, son, and brother, Kyle Douglas Morrell, peacefully passed away on November 15, 2020. Kyle was born October 9, 1963 in Scottsdale, AZ to McRae "Mac" Morrell and Dixie Ann Nelson Morrell. The family moved the following year to Bountiful, UT. Kyle attended Bountiful Jr. High and Viewmont High School where he actively participated in football, basketball, baseball and many other school activities.
He then chose to attend Brigham Young University to play college football. He was a proud member of BYU's 1984 National Championship Football Team. He was then drafted by the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League, where he spent two seasons.
Kyle loved to hunt, fish, golf, and have a good time with family and friends.
Kyle is survived by his children: Mykol (Elias) Rhett, Steven (Chantel) Morrell, Kylee (Austin) Steinicke, Keira (Colton) Jeffrey, Kade Morrell and three grandchildren, his mother Dixie, brother Guy (Colleen) Morrell, and sister Marie (Gene) Knickrehm. He was preceded in death by his father Mac.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sam Wilson and Utah Home Health & Hospice Staff, along with the North Canyon Care Facility in Bountiful, UT for the loving care they have provided to Kyle over the last several months. We cannot thank you enough. Due to the restrictions of Covid-19, the family will hold a private service. We plan to have a celebration of Kyle's life at a later date. Hello, Dixie. This is Vauna's oldest daughter, Laura. I was very saddened to hear about Kyle's health challenges and passing. My husband and I were students at BYU during part of the time Kyle played there, and we enjoyed keeping up with his football career. We will keep you in our thoughts as you go through this difficult time, and we hope that you will be able to find some peace.

How kind Kyle was to me while playing little league baseball. I’ll be forever grateful for the patience he and his dad (our coach that year) had for an undersized catcher (me) who could barely throw it back to the pitcher (Kyle). They both made me a better player and person and were great examples of what a teammate and coach should be.

I am saddened by the death of Kyle.
I too lost a younger brother and it is not the way things are supposed to go.
I have vivid memories of all the fun we had at the Clothing markets and sample sales.
I also remember the rounds of golf we played and how being on a best ball team with the three Morrell men made me bear down to contribute my share.
My thoughts are with you all Dixie, Guy and Colleen, Marie and Gene and all of the kids and grandkids .

First met Kyle, at 9 years of age on the little league fields of Bountiful. It was a decade of competing with but mostly against Kyle in all sports. Which, he was usually the victor. There a very few stories of Bountiful and Viewmont rivalries that Kyle's name would not be mentioned, classics. In over 50 years as a player and high school coach have I never witnessed a better overall athlete than Kyle. Competitor on the field but was your friend off the field. God bless the Morell family.

My heart goes out to the Morrell family. Our life is a test with many lessons. Kyle had a difficult test as an athlete losing his physical abilities. May the knowledge of Christ’s redemption bring peace to your soul. View not 1974 alumni, Kevin Wilson

Kyle is one of those people in life we will never forget. We grew up in the same neighborhood always playing football, baseball, basketball, wiffle ball, and golf. He was amazing at all of these, even back then. At Viewmont, he was a stand out in football, basketball and baseball. He was definitely the kind of guy you were grateful to have as a teammate. More importantly he was awesome person and friend.
My condolences and prayers are with his family, some of the best people you'll ever meet.

I will never forget Kyle as a player for BYU. He was so fun to watch! The goal line leap at the Hawaii game to stop them was more than incredible....it was almost super human. Sorry for your loss at this time. I hope that memories of him will bring you comfort in the days and years ahead.

Kyle was a very special man, although I did not know him long I’m very grateful for the opportunity to have met him and got to know him. We shared so many life stories in his time with us at the care facility, and I will always cherish the time we had. We are forever grateful to his family for choosing us to take care of such an incredible man! Rest easy Kyle, until we meet again!

I met Kyle when he first came to North Canyon Care Center about 8 months ago. He was always cracking jokes and making my day. I went to McDonald’s and got him a cheeseburger and a coke frequently because that’s all he wanted some days. We often talked about sports, food, and tv shows. Up until the end, he was uplifting others. I’ll miss you.

Dixie, Marie, Guy and families we have lost a great friend for a short time. It was said, "There's not enough mustard in the world for Kyle Morrell". But that cocky swagger did not define Kyle. Those of us that knew him best saw alot more. I saw him best as a kind warrior. He could knock helmets off with his "Darth Vader" tackles. LaVell often threatened to send him back to Viewmont. But LaVell cherished his great leadership. Kyle once threw a catsup bottle against the wall at the Wyoming dining room to fire up his teammates for the game that day. I saw his joking side when he showed up to my English class on Signing date with a Utah sweatshirt on. On a very personal note I saw him stop a Little League game and allow a little boy to run to the rec. Center to use the bathroom and avoid embarassment on the field. Our children loved Kyle. He brought Jim McMahon to our home with a signed picture. Our course the kids at school wouldn't believe. But our children knew. The last time Helen and I talked to Kyle; though his body was ravished, his mind was alert and his humor intact as we shared many memories.
We love you buddy. Goodbye my friend, but just for a short time.

Kyle was a great teammate and person. I have very fond memories of the many hours I spent with Kyle on the football field, in team and position meetings, as a teammate off the field and in several University classes. Condolences to Kyle's family
