Edith Duckworth Young Obituary
1914 ~ 2012
"To Know Her is to Love Her"
Edith Duckworth Young, our sweet little Mom and friend to everyone passed away peacefully on Feb. 5th 2012 She was born to William and Edith Duckworth on Nov. 22, 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating from South High School, she attended the University of Utah for about one year but was forced to drop out to help with the family business when her mother passed away. She married Vaughn Olsen Young on Dec. 12, 1936 but was later divorced. Mom was employed for 22 years by the Granite School District working as a secretary for Upland Terrace and Lincoln Elementary Schools. She later transferred to the District Offices and retired from that position in Oct. 1980. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in various positions, including Primary President and Relief Society President, a position she held for 7 years. She was a perfect example of Christ like actions and spent her lifetime serving others. She was an absolutely amazing lady and will forever be remembered for her signature baby blankets and in fact was recently featured on The Mormon Times where they highlighted her life and told of her dedication in making thousands of blankets for family, friends and people throughout the world. She also recently was able to fulfill the last thing that remained on her "bucket list" which was her dream of meeting David Archuleta. Everyone who ever met Mom loved her for her fun sense of humor and attitude toward life. You only had to spend a few minutes with her to become a lifelong friend. It's hard to say goodbye to someone who has been such a major influence in each of our lives but the things we have learned from her, the memories we have made with her, will live on in each of us, never to be forgotten.
Edith is survived by her children, Stephen Young (Shirlee), Nancy Buehner (Steve) She has 14 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and six great, great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Toni, son-in-law Merriel, two sisters Lavelle Curtis and Glennona Hatch.
An evening viewing will be held Wednesday Feb. 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr. Funeral Services will be held Thursday Feb. 9th at 11:00 at the Murray 23rd Ward, 755 Three Fountains Dr. with a viewing beforehand from 10:00 to 10:45. The family would like to thank the staff of Canyon Creek Assisted Living who treated Mom so well and like everyone else in her life became her "friends"
