Thomas Varney Obituary
1933 ~ 2012
Thomas Brent Varney, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and recently a great-great grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 28, 2012 at the age of 78.
Tom was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, December 31, 1933 to Edward Walker Varney and Ethel Leora Johnson Varney. He married Vera Lorraine Jeremy Varney on September 27, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Tom served honorably in the US Marines from 1950 to 1953. He loved camping, fishing and being outdoors with his family. He loved to spend time in his garage working on cars and other projects. Tom often quoted himself to others as the "Jack-of-all-Trades, master of none," but to his family he was much more than that. He will always be remembered for his keen wit, hard work and for his dedication to his family.
Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine; children, Janet (Walt) Rixey, Jody (Jim) Woolf, Judy (Ralph) Gilger, Wendy Varney (Ron Vaclavik), Brent (Pam) Varney, son-in-law; Joe Waldron; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter, and brother Melrose Varney. He was preceded in death by his daughter Tami Waldron, grandson Nick Seal, parents, nine brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 31, 2012, 12:00 noon at Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan with a viewing one hour prior. Dear Janet and family,
Even though it's been a very long time since I've seen your Mom and Dad I still have fond memories of your home in Sugarhouse being my second home through our Jr High School years. Your Dad had such a great sense of humor and was such a tease. One of my favorite memories was the huge water fight we had in your kitchen that was instigated by your Dad! Thought your Mom would be very mad, but she just laughed. He was such a great guy and I'm sure he will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him...hugs to you, your Mom and your family.
