1953 ~ 2012
Becky Carlson, lover of the good life and friend to animals, went to a sunnier place Dec.16th, 2012. Beloved for her irreverent humor, Becky's laughter will still resonate in our hearts and memories. Her grandkids will miss her unbridled affection, her family will miss her delicious cooking, and her friends will miss her knack for finding the fun in any messed up situation!
Becky was born in Salt Lake on April 17th, 1953 and attended Olympus High School. Married Brian Carlson 1971 (later divorced). Partner of Winston White, later separated. During her work life, Becky helped run Dr. Grose's famous South Temple clinic, headed a cleaning business and made for a fine sales lady of Feature Films, wireless services and cosmetics. Most recently, she gave her nurturing touch to the elderly as a volunteer for SL County Aging Services. Becky was a friend to all and especially passionate about civil rights and those with disabilities. She was a fierce ally to her gay friends and any marginalized soul. Becky loved vacations at Hanna, R&B music, a saucy tale, and Jazzercise.
Preceded in death by parents Joseph M Smith and Josephine Dickson.
Survived by daughter Manjanique Alexander (Lorenzo), son Justin Carlson (Amy), siblings David Smith (Ann), Michelle Falco (Chris), Nancy Bliss (Michael), Annette Parry (Marlin), grandchildren Vanessa, Zoie, Mason, Emma, Tess, like-sisters Wanda McCray and Lisa Gorder Owens and adored nieces, nephews, extended family, friends past and present, and canine companion Sam.

Becky had one of those larger-than-life personalities. Her tribute fit her perfectly. She made me laugh more than anyone. Some of my fondest memories growing up was spent with Becky at the Smith home, whether it was riding our bikes to Fernwoods, or spending quality time at Cottonwood Mall:) Always singing along to our favorite albums (Crosby, Stills, and Nash and of course the Beatles). She will be welcomed by many on the other side. Love you Beck! Toni

Dear Manj,
I just have to say, You were adorable growing up and your mother always kept you so clean, dressed, and always had your hair just perfect... You are just as beautiful today and the wonderful mother you are, came from your mother... I am so sorry and feel your pain. I would like to be able to tell you the hurt gets easier, however it comes when you really don't expect it. Holidays, birthdays, graduations, etc... The blessing is that she was able to see you and Vanessa find your true love, that will stand by the two of you and lets not forget your adorable Zoey and Mason forever. I know as a mother, this was a blessing for her to be a part of. We are here for you now and months, and years to come. Our hearts are heavy. Love Bronson, Kim, and family..

So sorry to hear about Becky's passing. I have fond childhood memories of Becky and the Smith family. I can still hear Becky's infectious laugh. May you be comforted during this time of loss. I still feel the void left by Joe and Boo's passing. Thanks for the wonderful memories of happy, light-hearted days.
