Robert Walter Kleinschmidt died peacefully at home on August 2 following an extended illness complicated by Alzheimer's dementia. Bob was born in St. Louis, MO to Walter Kleinschmidt and Tilla Kettelkamp.
Bob was known in the art community as a respected artist and teacher. He retired as Emeritus Professor from the University of Utah 1999 after a 30 year tenure in the printmaking department.
He is survived by Mary Jo, his devoted wife of sixty-two years; one son, Tom (Sheila) from West Wendover, Nevada; and two grandchildren, Karina and Cody. Additional survivors include nieces and nephews, David Burks (Sara), Sylvia Burks (Lloyd), Vicki Burks (Marshall), and James Burks (Sue).
A Memorial Service will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn (2350 E 1300 S, SLC) on Tuesday, August 6 for family and close friends. Visitation from 12:00 to 1:45 pm; service at 2:00 pm. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later time and place to be determined.

I did not know that Bob had passed away until recently meeting another person who had also been a student of his. Bob was such a wonderful human being, artist and teacher. He was incredibly supportive and encouraging - especially to those of us who were exploring and making work outside the norm. I will always remember his generosity and kindness... and Rat-foxes!

Bob was easily the most generous teacher I ever had. That's saying a lot since I've spent so much time around academics and artists in my life.
His willingness and ability to look deeply into his students and offer in-depth and helpful insights was unparalleled.
He will be missed, know I'm just one of so many whose life and art was touched and made better by his contributions.

Dear Mary Jo,
I will always remember you fondly as my clinical supervisor as I did my internship at head start soooo many years ago! To this day you hold a soft spot in my heart. Your love and dedication to your profession was so inspirational to me. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your sweet husband. Know that you are loved!
