Adele Peck Obituary

Adele Hancock Peck 5/13/20 ~ 2/16/03  Adele Hancock Peck, former resident of American Fork, Utah, most recently a resident of Marlborough, Massachusetts, died Sunday, February 16, 2003 in Framingham, Massachusetts. Adele was born in Salt Lake City on May 13, 1920 to Madolin (Brown) and Clarence Hancock. Her four children survive her: Carol Russell, Pat Isaacson, Suzanne Vause, and Vincent Peck; ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Her husband, Wallace, preceded Adele in death. Two sisters and a brother also survive her: Verna Poulsen, Nancy Pease, and Michael Hancock. Adele augmented her career as a loving wife and mother, with another career in social work. She was employed at the Utah State Prison, originally as secretary to the caseworkers who counseled the inmates. With encouragement from the Warden and her family, she returned to school, eventually completing her Master's Degree from the University of Utah in Social Work (while working full-time at the prison). She pioneered as the first female social worker to work with the inmates inside the prison. During her tenure, she initiated many innovative programs to help the inmates as parents and individuals. In addition, she was given the administrative responsibility of the women's prison facility. Adele was an avid bridge player, and after her retirement, she spent Wednesday afternoons playing bridge at the American Fork Senior Citizen's Center. She was also a great supporter and participant in the early bird water workout program at the recreation center in American Fork. Memorial service will be held in American Fork for Utah family & friends in July.
