My condolences to the family of Leland Nichols. As a fellow math teacher just down the hall from Leland, we shared many a good time together; some enjoyable, some stressful but always in a common knowledge of our responsibilities to our students and each other. I met Leland on his first day of teaching and we taught together until the day I retired in 1990. It was a good trip Leland. You will live in my memory as long as I live. Gordon Broyles

As a former student of Mr. Nichols and fellow military veteran, I thought I'd reach out to Mr. Nichols' family to see if they would like for me to coordinate with their State Senator, Leticia Van de Putte, to have a Senate Resolution honoring the life and military service of Mr. Nichols introduced during the 2015 legislative session.
It would be my honor to do so if that is the desire of the Nichols family.
Sen. Van de Putte is the Chair of the Texas Senate's Veteran Affairs and Military Installations Committee. She is a big supporter of veterans and introduced a resolution during the 2013 legislative session that I drafted for her to honor a friend and former neighbor of mine who lived in her Senate district.
If interested, please contact me at [email protected].
Respectfully,
Steve Nichols

Having a lasting, positive influence on the lives of others, especially our youth, is one of the better definitions of success. We are grateful for the life Leland lived in service to his faith, his family, his country, his friends, and the many students he encouraged through his kindness and his vision.
