Steven Boswell Obituary

BOSWELL
Steven Harris Boswell passed away on July 8, 2013 after spending his last months as he spent his life, surrounded by his family and friends. He cared deeply about many things - history, good books, astronomy, children, traveling, tennis, Abraham Lincoln, poetry - and shared those passions with many of the people he loved most. But above all, he treasured his relationships with a large and loving family and many beloved friends.
Steve was born to Charles and Evelyn Boswell in Charleston, West Virginia on April 13, 1943. His family lived in many cities when he was a child before settling in Houston, where Steve graduated from Bellaire High School in 1961. He earned an undergraduate degree from Baylor University, and an M.D. from Baylor's medical school in Houston. Steve followed that training with a residency at Duke University's medical school, where he specialized in radiology and found time to enjoy the school's beautiful golf course and to explore the surrounding areas.
After finishing his medical education, Steve served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland, where he oversaw the training of residents. While he lived in the area, he enjoyed visiting the Smithsonian and the many historic sites in and around Washington, DC.
In 1976, Steve moved to San Antonio, where he worked as a radiologist for many years. In his free time, he was a competitive tennis player, an avid reader, a frequent traveler, a loving husband, an involved father, an enthusiastic grandfather, and a true friend to many.
Steve is survived by his mother, Evelyn Boswell; his wife, Janet Merrill Boswell; children Lynn Boswell and her husband Burton Baldridge, David Boswell and his wife Kim Steckler, Brooke Swallow Meabon and her husband Jared Meabon, and Brent Swallow; grandchildren Dylan Baldridge, Elena Baldridge, Hayden Boswell, Durham Boswell, Harper Meabon and Harris Meabon; sisters Bonnie Brown and Ann Davis; and many other close family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on Friday, July 12 at University United Methodist Church in San Antonio. The family asks that no flowers be sent. Instead, they suggest memorial contributions in his memory to one of the following:
. The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710;
. Vitas Hospice through online donations
. Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation, ALPLF Membership, 500 E Madison, Suite 200, Springfield, IL 62701
