Dorothy Rheinlander

Dorothy Annette Mills Rheinlander of San Antonio, Texas died Monday, November 26, 2012 at the age of 81. Dorothy Annette Mills was born in September of 1931, the first of four children, to Richard and Catherine Nance Mills of Big Wells, Texas. She grew up at Big Wells and attended school at Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, Texas, where she formed friendships that lasted her whole life. On July 1, 1950, she married Virgil O. Rheinlander, Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. Virgil and Dorothy Annette had four children - two boys and two girls - and together they traveled from coast to coast in the U.S. and across the world in the Philippines and in Germany. They returned to Texas in 1976, after Virgil's retirement from the Navy. Back in Texas, Dorothy Annette returned to college and earned her Bachelor's Degree in nursing at the University of the Incarnate Word.
Dorothy Annette loved nursing and worked as a registered nurse for years before taking on other positions, such as school nurse for the Poteet school district, County Nurse for Atascosa County and teacher of LVN school for St. Philips College. Always a seeker of knowledge, she continued her education throughout her career, not only within her professional field, but also within a variety of fields of interest to her. She was an excellent cook and an accomplished seamstress, and she loved arts and crafts - particularly painting, stained-glass designing and woodworking. She was reverent and faithful all of her life, and perhaps her greatest virtue was her ability to forgive and never hold a grudge.
