Irwin Stephens

Irwin William (Steve) Stephens went peacefully to be with his Lord on Monday, January 28, 2013, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 15, 1927, in Tonkawa OK to Carl Spurgeon Stephens and Gladys Patterson Stephens. He grew up as one of seven children born to his parents. He was graduated from the University of Florida as a pharmacist and worked for many years in this profession. He was retired from the VA Health System and then worked for the University Health System in San Antonio, from which he also retired. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Dolores Fisher. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann Stephens. Also surviving are 3 children, Linda Starnes, Robert Stephens, and Diana Krejci and husband Aaron Krejci; six wonderful grandchildren remain, John A. Starnes and wife Tirzah, Shane Starnes, Brent Starnes, Dylan Starnes, Brenna Krejci and Ryan Krejci; two precious great-grandchildren, Breslynn and John Brylee Starnes. He is also survived by brothers, Paul Stephens and wife Joy, J.D. Stephens and wife Barbara, Carl Stephens and wife Ciene, Charles Stephens and wife Margie, and sister, Louise Johnston and husband Johnny, along with many nieces and nephews. Steve was a very kind, gentle, and loving man of integrity who was loved by all who knew him. He consistently displayed all nine fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control. He was extremely loyal to his family, and was always willing to sacrifice for them. It would be impossible to find one person who had a negative thing to say about him. He left behind many good friends to whom he was loyal for many years as they were to him. He was a member of San Antonio City Church on Bandera Road and was loved by many dear friends there. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
