I am a hobby genealogists, and am working on the descendants of the Henri Castro Colonists of Castroville, Texas, of which I am one. Mr. Ehlinger is also a descendant of one of the colonists, Pierre Christilles. In working on the tree I came across Mr. Ehlinger's story. I must say, he has absolutely touched my heart. His story and family will stay in my heart for quite some time. Thank you for sharing so much of who he is. He is thought of today, and tomorrow.

Dear Ehlinger Family:
I just learned of Ross' passing. Please accept my most sincere condolences. I had a number of cases with Ross on the other side as the opposing attorney. He was a man of integrity in all things and such a credit to our profession. While it had bee a couple of years since I had a case in Austin, we spoke from time to time over the phone. He would always talk about his family and kids. Truly an amazing man.
God Bless,

I offer my sincere sympathy to you and your entire family. I worked "against" Ross on a number of cases over the last ten years. He was simply the best combination of talented attorney, ethical gentleman, and positive personality. There is not attorney with whom I would rather have a case.
His passing has brought me great sadness, but has also inspired me to reflect on the things I'm doing in my personal and professional life. Stated simply, I would like to be more like Ross. He was a great example for all of us.
I wish you all the best in the years that follow. He will surely look down and smile on all of your successes. May his memory and spirit comfort you in your times of need.
God Bless.

Dear Jena,
Words are not adequate in telling you how heartbroken I am to hear of your immeasurable loss. I can only imagine the deep pain and grief must be overwhelming at times, but I also know your Father in heaven will fill your every being with His love and comfort as you trust in Him. Ross was a great man of faith, honor, integrity and a strong, wonderful presence in your life and your children's lives. As Easter comes, may you be reminded of the hope & assurance you have in Jesus, that this is just a temporary seperation and you will one day be with Ross again. Until then, may Jesus wrap you and your precious children tightly in His arms and may He heal your broken hearts with each new day! With heartfelt prayers of comfort. healing & love,

Being opposite of Ross on many cases, Ross never made me or my clients ever feel uncomfortable. Starting with his terrific smile, Ross had an unique ability to bring a positive vibe to contentious situations. For the seven or so years I knew Ross, I looked up him – not only as an example of how to live as an honorable man in a profession that tends to test the extent of one's character, but because he was simply a cool dude. He will be truly missed, but never forgotten!

I am so deeply sad about Ross and so sorry for you and your precious children. I will always remember how madly in love he was with you from the second you two started dating at UT. I will also always remember his gregarious personality, his bright smile and his huge charisma - from high school thru adulthood when we would run into each other. I am so very sorry for your loss, Jena. I know he set an extraordinary example for your children on how to love and how to live. He will always be in our hearts.

Dear Ehlinger and extended families, I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of working on many small cases throughout the years with Ross and what always struck me was how, even if it had been years in between, he would remember me and was always bright, passionate and warm to me and everyone in court, no matter who they represented. I pray that the pain of your loss will heal quickly and be replaced by positive memories of such a caring and giving man. Sincerely,

Dear Jena,
I lived next door to the Ehlinger's for quite a few years and watched Ross grow up from a young boy to a teenager. I was there many times when Dan (and I by association) reluctantly had to baby sit Ross on a Sat. nite while his parents went out for the evening. Even though Dan absolutely hated doing this, you could tell he always loved and thought highly of his little brother as did I. Seeing Ross (and you a few times) intermittently during his college years, I could tell what a great guy Ross had grown up to be and I was proud to know him.
I am so sorry for your loss and am devastated at having heard of his passing. He is greatly missed.

May God give you and your whole family the patience, wisdom and faith to know he's in God's Grace now and his spirit is still alive and remains, just in a different dimension. Please know you can count on us , just let us know what we can do to ease your grief and pain.

March 7, 2013
The reality that we are all mortal is a very hard thing to take, I have worked with Ross on different cases for the last 10 years or more, and he was always a great guy, we always took time to BS and talk about family and brag about our kids and what they were doing. We both loved tri's so we talked about that too! His office was across the street so I would often just drop by to pick up paperwork and shoot the breeze.
Please let us all know what help you could use and what we can do, we all feel so helpless, and as you know lawyers are an action bunch, not a sit around bunch. I know I speak for all the ones who have written you a note, that if we can help we want to help. Your husband knew that just because you were a lawyer, it didn't mean that you couldn't be a good person. He was always a good person first of all. He always said I better be nice or my wife will be mad at me. You were obviously a great influence on him.

There are simply no words that could fill, in even the smallest way, the emptiness your beautiful family must feel in losing such an extraordinary husband, father and friend. What is certain is that Ross is being held in the strong, loving arms of Christ...and that he is speaking constantly to Him of his beautiful, heart-broken family. We pray that you hear his whispered words of love to you.....that even in the dense silence of his absence, you feel his "presence" in the love poured out all around you. May the Beloved bring you His grace, courage, and peace.

My best memory of Ross is the time he showed up for a deposition with an extremely fat lip, and explained that he'd been playing catch with his son and that his son turned out to be a better pitcher than Ross was a catcher. I always looked forward to seeing Ross, even though it was usually in the context of a lawsuit in which we were opposed, and I send his family my deepest sympathy.

March 6, 2013
I met Ross for about a minute in my boss's office recently. In that minute, it was obvious his kids and wife rocked his world daily and that his friendship with my boss was priceless. I left that office thinking to myself, "What an awesome guy! He seems like a great man and I bet he is a great friend." My heart goes out to everyone that Ross's life touched. His family and friends are all in my prayers.

Jena,
I have so many memories of Ross that I don't know where to start. So I will share just one.
About 7 years ago, one of the times I was depressed, you asked me "what can I do?" and I said that I was out of my Mac lipstick "Plink". Lo and behold, Ross left work that day, he drove to Saks, and delivered the lipstick to my house. I was asleep and didn't hear the doorbell ring. I later went outside to find a Saks bag with the tube of lipstick and Ross left a note for me which read, "Amy, I think you are awesome. Love, Ross."
He has a special place in my heart always.

Dearest Jena,
My heart goes out to you and your family. I recall running into you many years ago at a triathlon in Temple. You were there to watch and cheer on your husband Ross, as he competed in what I believe was his first tri. I remember the male athletes were already in cue to start the swim, and you pointed out who Ross was. He turned and grinned at you. In that very same loving way, I'm sure he's grinning at you and your beautiful kids, now and forever.

Jena,
My heart is truly broken for you and your family. Through the years working with you, I am so thankful I was able to hear you share some of the awesome times/trips/events Ross, you and your children experienced together. I always thought, "that's a man leading, loving and enjoying his family!" Please know you and your family are and have been in my thoughts and prayers. I pray God's overwhelming blessings on you and your sweet family.

Mr. Ehlinger represented our son in a structured settlement hearing in 2004 after we lost his mother in a car accident. I always remembered Mr. Ehlinger for how caring he was and sympathetic to our situation. I really felt we were in good hands. We are very sorry for the family's loss, and we pray that you know Mr. Ehlinger now walks with Angels in Heaven. God Bless.
