Frankie Reyna Obituary
Frankie Guilbeau Reyna passed away on August 25, 2018 surrounded by those who love her. Born in Scott, LA on September 25, 1931 to Frank and Mae (nee Boudreaux) Guilbeau, Frankie grew up in Franklin, LA and Port Arthur, TX. She graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, with a degree in English Literature. While in college, Frankie met her future husband, Arthur C. "Sonny" Reyna.
She was a lifelong teacher and learner, who taught elementary school in Edgewood ISD and San Antonio ISD for nearly four decades. Frankie raised six children and in her spare time she was an active and life member of Club Sembradores de Amistad de San Antonio, serving as president of the women's club. She loved to travel, planning trips for her family until as recently as two months ago.
Besides travel, Frankie kept her mind sharp by playing computer games. She watched documentaries, political satire, and romantic comedies. As you might expect, her most enjoyable times were those spent with her grandchildren and great grandchild, who she missed dearly when they were not around her.
Frankie is survived by her children, Arthur Reyna, Jr. (Sylvia), Samuel Reyna, Frank Reyna, Juan Reyna, Mary Reyna, and Laura Gil (Jesse); by her grandchildren, Anastasia Russell (Jonny), Arthur Reyna, III, Adrian Reyna, Ian Gil, Mae Gil, Claude Gil, and Jay Gil; by her brother, Harold Guilbeau (Charlene); by her nephews and nieces, Frank Cervenka, Christopher Cervenka, Tracie Swonke (Patrick), Jill Schwertner (Terry), and Cherissa Lavergne (Ryan); and by her great grandchild, Annabel Russell.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her sister, Theresa Cervenka.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 3rd from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 4th at 10:00 a.m. at San Fernando Cathedral. Interment will occur on Wednesday, September 5th at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter 3.

Frankie and I worked together for several years at Roosevelt Ele. in the late 70s. She was a wonderful person to work with and I often think of those days with fondness and a smile. She always spoke of her husband and children and always with great love. We shared a fascination for Nicholas And Alexandra and their saga. Frankie often said we should teach the children to dance during their PE period so that when they go to dances they can actually dance and not be seduced in the background by smoking and drugs. Frankie would be pleased to see the ballroom dancing program Roosevelt has now. She exposed her students to many and varied lessons and activities. She treated the students with respect and affection. Her fellow teachers were treated in that same way. As I stated in the beginning, Frankie was a wonderful person. I am lucky to have known and worked with her. Thank you for sharing Frankie with me way back then.

Frankie, I was so blessed to have called you my friend. I spent the happiest years of my teaching career with you at Hillcrest. No one had a bigger heart or a kinder spirit than you. You were loved by every student who had the good fortune of having you as their teacher and by all who were privileged to be your friend. I will miss you, Frankie. I will miss your clever wit. I will miss your humor. No one could make me laugh the way you could. That's how I will always remember you. May our Lord, Jesus, Whom you served so well, hold you in the palm of his hand. I love you, my unforgettable friend. My heartfelt condolences to your loving family. You will always be in my prayers.
