Carol Lee Curle Boerner Obituary
January 1, 1943 - December 25, 2018
Carol Lee Curle Boerner passed away from this life Christmas night, 2018. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 1, 1943 to Margaret Belle Farrell and John Edward Curle. In 1945 they moved to Front Royal, Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley where they had extensive family roots. She had many memories of wonderful times along the Shenandoah River and in the Blue Ridge National Park. She was a member of the high school marching band and the elite majorette team. Carol graduated from Warren County High School in 1961 and attended Madison College in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

In 1964, she married Second Lieutenant Roger Boerner at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi and they set off on the great adventure to see the world. They enjoyed assignments in Mississippi, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington D.C., but particularly those coastal assignments on Cape Cod, Carolina Beach, and the Gulf of Mexico. She never lost her great love and fascination for the seashore and reveled in the many years they owned a seashore condominium on Mustang Island, Texas -- a wonderful retreat and the gathering place for the entire family and many friends.

While in their second assignment in San Antonio, Carol began substitute teaching in the public elementary schools and was lovingly pulled into a long career in education. She attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Art. She taught in Coronado and Spring Meadows Elementary Schools in the Judson ISD, and then at Curington, Fair Oaks, and Kendall Elementary Schools in the Boerne ISD. She retired from teaching in 2002 with 21 years of service. In retirement, she continued teaching with one-one-one tutoring, just for the love of it. She touched and was touched by hundreds of students who continued to show up at unexpected times to reminisce about their days together. She was an avid, enthusiastic, dedicated and happy teacher and was twice recognized as Teacher of the Year.

Carol loved the Lord and His people and taught Sunday School at many Air Force Chapels and shared her abundant talents in many Methodist Churches. She was a member of the Boerne United Methodist Church since 1993.

Her greatest joy and pride was her family. Carol is survived by her loving, adoring husband, Roger; daughters, Lisa Avila and husband Art and Amanda Ternan and husband Doug; and grandchildren, Emily Brand Rangel and husband Russell, Zoe Brand and partner Brayden Boren, Joshua Brand, Kimberly Ternan and Jack Ternan, all of San Antonio. She is also survived by her brother, John Curle and partner Beverly Whitlock; sister-in-law, Prudence Mathews of Front Royal, Virginia; aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces; and a young lady who was like a daughter, Mary DeGrave Anthony, and husband Nick of San Antonio.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Boerne First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on January 12, 2019. A private burial will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
