Catherine Killoran Obituary
November 9, 2017

Sister Catherine Killoran died peacefully on Nov 9, 2017 at her home, the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate. She was born in County Offaly, Ireland on April 1, 1931 and joined the Sisters of the Holy Spirit in Mount Bellew in County Galway on Nov 19, 1948. For many years she served as an elementary school teacher in schools staffed by the congregation in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. With the coming of integration, she shifted her considerable administrative gifts from teaching in Catholic Schools in the African American community to organizing flourishing religious education programs. She left her thumbprint of creativity on every project she touched, be it cooking, sewing or decorating. After a long career of caring for minds and souls, Sr Catherine retired to the Motherhouse three years ago from her last assignment in Lake Providence, LA. Sr Catherine is survived by her sister, Beryl Canavan, in Florida and brothers, Sean and Anthony in Ireland, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives, the members of her religious congregation and many friends, co-workers, and students. All services will be held at Holy Spirit Convent, 300 Yucca Street. Rosary will be recited on Sunday at 7:00pm. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday at 4:30pm. Interment will follow in the convent cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ministries of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit.
