Gary R. Bankston Obituary
December 4, 1944 - December 11, 2018
Gary R. Bankston, 74, died December 11, 2018, at his home in Temple, Texas. His memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Grace Presbyterian Church of Temple with Rev. Thom Lamb officiating.

Born in San Antonio on December 4, 1944, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Deever, and parents, H.R. and Twyla Okey Bankston, all of San Antonio. A graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Gary went on to receive a Bachelor of Art Education Degree from Texas State University.
In a career that spanned more than three decades with teaching fields that included art, industrial arts, and career education, he taught in San Antonio, Clute, Lake Jackson, Angleton and West Columbia, Texas.

His art, which has been seen in galleries and homes throughout Texas and the greater southwest, reflects his love of nature, his sense of adventure, and his deep reverence for life at its rugged best - qualities that continue to live in his wife, Cynthia Chaffin Bankston, a son, John Bankston of Richmond, TX, daughter Anna Bankston Fondren, and granddaughter Sophia Fondren, both of Austin, Texas. Other survivors include many cousins and over 170 live oak trees that he raised from acorns and planted at his residence.

Memorial donations may be made to Kindred Hospice, Grace Presbyterian Church of Temple, or any organization that supports the natural settings and wildlife of Texas.
Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple, Texas is in charge of arrangements.
