On Saturday, August 15, 2009, George B. Livesay, M.D., entered eternal life. He was born February 8, 1928. George graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Rice University, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society, and Baylor College of Medicine. He completed a neurosurgical residency in Oklahoma City and Chicago. After serving in the Army Medical Corps Fort Sam Houston, he was in solo practice in San Antonio for five years before he founded Neurosurgical Associates with Dr. Allen F. Kingman in1966. George's skills in the practice of medicine were considerable, resulting in an invitation to join the Harvey Cushing Society; He was a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Southern Neurosurgical Society, the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical. He was past president of the Bexar County Medical Society, He delivered compassionate care to his patients and his empathy of those who were hurting or had limitations was complete. George consistently sought to improve the quality and availability of health care for the entire community, including providing voluntary medical care at San Antonio's Good Samaritan Center and helping to establish and extend communitywide Emergency Medical Services. Throughout his life, George practiced medicine the same way he lived his life, with honesty and integrity. He was a man of diverse talents and boundless interests. An accomplished bass baritone, he sang for many years with the MasterSingers, the San Antonio Chorale Society, the Texas Bach Choir and special choirs for the High Holy Days celebrated at Temple Bethel. His love of opera was well known by all who knew him, he and his wife traveled to see performances around the world. More important to his family and friends, George was a renowned storyteller and a master wit who kept us entertained with his recollections, histories and insights. George's love for his family was total and unconditional. He was preceded in death by his parents. Col. and Mrs. Harvey Robinson Livesay, his brother Harvey Robinson Livesay, Jr., and his granddaughter, Cynthia Smith Deegear. Dr. Livesay was a gift to our family twice. My brother, he performed surgery at infancy that saved him from future effects of his spina bifida. Then years later to mother's surprise he was her surgeon. My mother had so much confidence in him. We lost her this January and now she enjoys hearing him sing.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family
