BRUEHLER
Gregory and Alexandra Bruehler died of injuries sustained in a tragic bicycle/motor vehicle accident on October 1, 2009. They were both avid outdoor and nature enthusiasts. Their love and nurturing qualities were demonstrated while working together as trainers and care providers at Sea World facilities in San Diego, Orlando, and San Antonio. Most recently, they were involved with various local animal care organizations. Gregory Loren Bruehler was born in Hurst, Texas on May 2, 1967. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (nee) Fuller. He is survived by daughter, Kylie Bruehler; father and wife, Gary and Carol Bruehler; sister Lori Line; niece Morgan Hoffman; nephew Austin Hoffman, and loving aunts and cousins. Gregory graduated from Marshall High School, the University of Florida with a degree in Zoology/Marine Biology, and received his graduate degree in Toxicology from the University of San Diego. One of his most noted work accomplishments was related to his supervision and interaction in the rescue of a baby Mexican Grey whale beached near San Diego. This recovery and eventual release back into San Diego Bay some years later was documented by the National Geographic Society. A special "JJ the Whale" documentary was aired on national television. Alexandra Bruehler was born in Glendale, California on April 24, 1973. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Telleson. She is survived by daughter, Kylie Bruehler; father Forrest Telleson. Alex graduated from Moore Park College with a degree in Animal Management and Training. Alexandra was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident just two years ago. She suffered numerous broken bones and a broken back, which put her mobility in doubt. Her love of an active life was miraculously demonstrated by her intense and aggressive recovery regimens, which led to one of her dreams coming true----- she qualified and participated in the 2009 New York Marathon. At the time of her untimely death, she and Greg were continuing her recovery process with their bike riding.

To the family and friends of Greg and Alex and Kylie -
What a wonderful fellow Greg was, and will remain in my memory. I so enjoyed working with him on Adak Island in the Aleutians, sampling groundwater for days and days. He was so funny, full of life, and stories, and he opened a window into the lives of the animals he cared for. I was envious that he was invited to South Africa to clean and release penguins coated with oil. He made such an impact on the world.
Life goes on - somehow.

Gary, I just read the news about your son and daughter-in-law. May the Lord blees and keep you and Carol. Tears flowed as I remembered all the things YOU have meant to me and the times you talked about Greg and I know how proud you are of him.

I know Greg was also loved and appreciated by all who knew him. He had a wonderful Dad as his example.

The Bruehler Family is special...

I knew them both from Sea World San Diego. I was honored to be a part of the JJ team with Greg and the rest of the animal care staff. I had lost touch with them over the last several years and yet I feel a deep loss. They were both so full of life and love. I wish their families the best and I hope they will get through this hard time and focus on giving Kylie all of the love that she will never receive from her incredible parents.

Kylie,

There is not much anyone can say right now to heal you hurt. I lost a parent when I was only 10. Now 27 yrs later, I can tell you with certainty - Cherish and hold on tight to every single memory you have. They will prove to be very vaulable as you grow. It will take some time for your to begin to heal, just be strong and know there are so many people who love you and will be looking out for you.

I didn't know your parents, but as a mom myself, the love they have (yes have) for you will never die.

Even this won't make since right now - but God must have some very special plans for you and your parents.

Much love and I will hold you in my prayers....

He was a ball of energy that I always looked forward to seeing at every meeting. I will miss him.

My husband and I were truly saddened to hear of the accident. Gregory and Alexandra, you were in so many ways a shining example of what people can do if they work together. I know your family will miss you, and my life feels a little more empty for having never known you myself. For all I know, I passed you on your tandem while my husband and I bicycled at some point. If so, at least I know we smiled, nodded and/or waved at one another.

To daughter Kylie, you and your aunts, uncles and friends are in my family's thoughts and prayers. I have no doubt you possess the same strength and determination exhibited by your parents (rehabilitating their bodies and living active, healthy lives), and that knowledge gives me the ability to tell you -- your life is just beginning, and you are destined for great things. Look to your loved ones, your teachers, your beliefs and your closest friends. They love you and will be there for you through this.

All the best,
Shannon & Justin Moore and 2-year-old daughter, Sara
