H. Clark Obituary

July 30, 1936 - July 28, 2018
Our heavenly Father called H. James (Jim) Clark home the morning of Saturday, July 28, 2018.

Jim, their only child, was born to Caroline Halwachs and Howard James Clark on July 30, 1936 in Cook County, Chicago, Illinois. Growing up, Jim was like many other children ---attending school, playing and doing odd jobs for extra money to go to the Saturday matinee's double feature. For high school, his parents sent Jim to Military Onarga School in Illinois where he graduated in 1953. Always a lover of music, Jim joined the band where he played the clarinet. He attended college, frequented the museums in Chicago, engaged in different jobs, one at Flying Tigers Airline in Alaska. In 1965 he married Betty Rugvam, and they had two sons.

Jim found his niche in real estate and began selling homes in Nebraska. He later became a builder and then developed subdivisions in Springfield, Nebraska. On a trip to enroll his sons in the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas, he discovered South Padre Island. He moved his crew to Texas and built 6 mid-rise/high rise condominiums.

Jim last served as a family service counselor at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas and this, he felt, was his most rewarding experience. He was able to help and direct many people in the most difficult time of their lives---the loss of a loved one. As one person wrote, "Dear Jim, I wanted to thank you so much for all your help. You helped turn the worst day of my life into something beautiful. I appreciate the comfort and compassion you showed to me". And as another individual said, "Thank you, again, for 'making a difference' ".

Jim enjoyed listening to music---especially classical and loved reading history, particularly military history.

Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Flume Clark and by two sons, William Matthew Clark (Tracye) and their children Drew and Walker and Donald Wayne Clark (Pammy) and their children Jessica and Mason.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24th, 2018. Jim's ashes will be laid to rest at a private family service.

If desired, a memorial contribution may be sent to Hope Lodge in Lubbock, Texas, of which Jim was an ardent supporter, an animal shelter or to the charity of your
choice.
