Helen Friedman Stool Obituary
Helen Friedman Stool passed away, on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. She was born in Dayton, Texas, and raised in Houston. Her parents were late Louis Friedman and Annie Kaplan Friedman, "the Belle of Nacogdoches". She was predeceased by three remarkable sisters, Rebecca, Esther and Pearl, whose lives ranged from attending the Julliard School to managing a cattle ranch, and investment real estate. She is also, predeceased by her brother's Morris and Simon Friedman of Dayton, Texas. She is survived by her brother Saul Friedman and his wife, another sister Elaine, of Houston. She met her life's partner, Bill "Willie" Stool at the University of Texas. He predeceased her as did her father in laws, Max and Anna Stool. She is survived by three sons, Michael Stool and Frances Cusack of Del Rio, Texas, Jerry and Claudia Stool and Louis Allan and Tere Stool, of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Joshua Stool of Denver, Colorado, Alexis, Nathan Stool, and Hayley Stool of Dallas; and Shana Stool Gurwitz, her husband Ben and great grand-daughter Ilana of San Antonio. In addition, she is also survived by her nephews and nieces; Morton Cohn, Stephen Friedman, Susan Kaplan and Anna Stool of Houston, Maurice, Kenneth and Gerald Giss, along with several great-nieces and nephews. Manty Gomez, Nena Guerra, Raquel Medina and Tere Guerra, were her loyal companions for almost a decade. Helen's life was full. Her husband volunteered for the Army in 1940, and she followed him from post to post. She was active in each of her son's PTA's, the Girl and Boy Scouts, Val Verde Hospital Auxiliary, Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, Garden Clubs, Community Concerts and, most importantly, as part of the lives of those who came into contact with her. She was closely involved in the management of the Guarantee Department Store. She was known for her irreverent attitude, constant good humor, high standards, generosity of spirit, and love of gardening. She set a lasting example for her descendants. A Memorial Service will be held at The San Felipe Country Club on Thursday, February 14th, at 3pm, in Del Rio, followed by a celebration of her life. All of her friends are invited to attend. Interment will be at Agudas Achim Cemetery on Friday, February 15th at 230pm 1400 E. Crockett, San Antonio, TX, 78202. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you come dressed in bright colors, so that we may celebrate Helen's life. Funeral arrangements with G. W.
